Delhi Police establishes online police-citizen communities across 11 districts of Delhi

Deploys LocalCircles Community Social Media to improve Law & Order

Over 35,000 citizens already part of the 11 District level Law & Order Circles

Jan 7, 2015, New Delhi, India: Delhi Police has established online citizen communities for the 11 districts of Delhi in order to enhance its interface with citizens of Delhi. This initiative is first of its kind in the country. It aims at bringing together Citizens residing in these districts of Delhi to connect them with each other and their District Police for the objective of improving Law & Order in the District. Each district has its own community with an invitation code.

Using these online citizen communities, District Police will update/alert citizens on crime related information, tips, local police initiatives as well as work with communities and RWAs on neighbourhood watch/community policing.

Citizens will also be able to raise law and order issues in their respective district communities, thereby seeking assistance from other citizens or the police. In less than a week since the communities have been initiated, citizens are reporting and discussing common issues like Chain Snatching, Crime Against Women, Unauthorized Parking, Street Vendor encroachments, Begging, etc. They are also discussing important subjects like Safety Best Practices for a Colony, Disaster Management and the role alert citizens can play.

“Engaging citizen communities with police is critical for improved law and order in the city, said Deepak Mishra, Special Commissioner, Law & Order, Delhi Police”. “With such community connectivity, the police can not only update citizens on alerts and initiatives but also seek community assistance with reporting of Suspicious Activity, Missing Children or Stolen Vehicles, continued Mishra”.

“LocalCircles is pleased to see the forward looking approach of Delhi Police. Many times, common law & order issues that bother us every day continue to go unreported and unaddressed because there is no easy mechanism for the Community-Police interaction, said Sachin Taparia, Chairman, LocalCircles”. “We have enabled several new capabilities on the LocalCircles platform like seeking Emergency Assistance or Reporting Anonymously which will help citizens seek assistance on common issues easily, continued, Taparia”.

All citizens of Delhi are requested to join their respective Law and Order District community by visiting www.localcircles.com and signing up with the invitation code below for their respective district in Delhi.
