Dear Members, Now a days, there has been increase in fraudulent transactions while doing online shopping. I am just giving below some of the advises that may be kept in view while making any online purchase.
1.Check with the manufacturer / distributors whether e-commerce websites you wish to shop are listed as their authorized resellers for the products you wish to buy.
2.Avoid shopping at Cyber Café or smart phone using public wi-fi such as Airports, shopping malls etc.. Cyber-café and public wi-fi are highly insecure for payments through credit / debit cards.
3.Use only trusted web-sites for on-line shopping through trusted payment gateways.
4. Before doing any shopping at on-line shopping store; please ensure that the site has provided proper details of customer care in their link ‘contact-us’ with telephone number, email ids, postal address etc. If possible, verify details of telephone number and email id by giving a call and mail to seek some details about some products.
5. The aesthetics like colour design and size of the products like garments, bags, furniture, show pieces, kitchenware etc. shown on web sites would look different than what are actually delivered. Please take care while shopping such products.
6. Do not fall prey to unbelievable or unrealistic commercial schemes offered by sites.
7.Do not make purchases by clicking on the links from emails, advertisement etc.
8.Provide complete details in the order form including mobile number, email id.
9.Study the complete terms and conditions including delivery commitments, refund policies and process for warranty replacements, after-sales service facilities, defective goods/ dead on arrival and any other instruction that need to be followed at the time of acceptance of the delivery.
10.Keep a record of the details of the registered orders and note down the reference number of the payment confirmation.
11.Read the fine print before making the purchase.
12.Compare the prices offered by various e-commerce sites before making any purchase.
13.Open the box immediately as soon as you receive it to check for its breakage, dead on arrival etc.
14.Check the product if it is delivered as per your order.
15.It the products is purchased on “pay on delivery (POD) basis”, check the product before making the payment to the delivery man. Refuse to take delivery of the box if the delivery man is not allowing you to see the products before making the payments.
16.Check whether the company has got any authorized service center near your locality.
17.Certain products require installation by the company’s authorized representative. The companies usually advise to open the delivered boxes by their authorized representative for any shortage, breakage etc. Get the report signed from them for any deficiency.
18.Do not fall prey to false promises, exaggerated claims.
19.If possible, go through the reviews/feedback of other users.
20.Discharge your responsibility by giving your feedback about any adverse experience with the company for safeguarding the interest of others from unethical business practices. more

Ebay does not have but snap deal does have a consumer friendly redressal system. Here also, if any friend has faced any problem, pl. keep me informed with details. All other names mentioned by Shri Virmani are shady sellers. more
As for the unreliable sellers, even big ones like shopping.indiatimes, bagittoday, naaptol , indiashopz ,Devante and other dime and dozens are there. more
I will differ on Shop Clues. I found them sincere and helpful to consumers. I will request if any one has faced any problem with this seller, pl. let me know. more
Nice remarks of Shri Mohan Siroya. Some of the avoidable sites from my information point of view are shopclues, 100bestbuy, askmebazar, streetstylestore, jeevanvikasyojna, bajarking, snapdeal etc. These sites are not consumer friendly and do not have proper grievance redress system. more
Yes, entire advice of shri Virmani is logical and necessary for the purchasers to avoid the "Cheating", claim , counter claims etc. On my part, would like to add that : i)Purchase only form those online sellers, who have the policy of "Return of Goods and Refund, if customer has a grievance about the product". Such online sellers do exist . Amazon, Flip cart, Snapdeal, Shop Clues, Pepperfry are few such sellers. While a few of then even arranges free picking of the goods to be returned, some others may ask you to pack and despatch at your COST. You should refuse . In a few cases, when complained while Shop Clues had arranged to get the goods picked up at theie cost, Pepperfry-- did not but then refunded the entire amount. This way the purchaser is having that "defective product" with him and also got his money back . ii) Certain products are to be installed by the company technician. A few times it may not be possible .In such cases, if you incur additional cost to get it fixed by your own person, then you are entitled to claim re-imbursement from the seller. We got this from Amazon ( they don't give cash but the Coupon worth that amount which can be utilized for future purchase). Pepperfry refunds actual amount against the bills presented to them. iii) Consumers please be cautious all other online sellers . I have been informing thru' my postings on face book and face book page of Consumer Complaints Cell about most of the sellers who are not reliable or frauds ,from time to time . more
