Freebies before election Not right

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today (June 3) has offered to provide free ride to women in the national capital's public transport - Metro and DTC buses. He says his government will bear Rs. 700 crore burden.

One may ask: Does this huge money belongs to Arvind Kejriwal that he is offering free ride to women in Delhi? It is people's money.

All the political parties whether it is BJP or AAP are giving freebies to voters. They are trying to grab power or remain in power by giving things free to people.

If country is economically growing, then why should the governments give free things to some sections of the society. This must stop.

One must ask Kejriwal how free ride to women in public transport like Metro and DTC buses will ensure their further safety as he is claiming.

If Kejriwal has enough money in Delhi government kitty then let him make it free for all passengers.

Unfortunately, he is trying to fool Delhi people. He knows that the Central government is not going to give him green signal via Lieutenant Governor. And this is what Kejriwal wants. His eyes are now on the next year's Assembly elections.

In the recently held Lok Sabha polls, AAP was at the third place. The BJP won all the seven seats. The results all over the country showed that women in greater numbers voted for BJP.

So Kejriwal is now trying to attract women with such stupid and economically unviable schemes of free ride to women in Metro and DTC buses.

This freebies thing must stop. These politicians for their vested interest are going to make this nation lazy and getting used to expect everything from the government FREE.

PS: The right thing would have been for Kejriwal to ask Delhi Metro to reduce fares and his government would bear the loss to Metro. Last year, Metro increased fares and lose big number of riders.

"Ideas famine vs Modi machine" NATIONAL INTEREST SHEKHAR GUPTA "Are freebies the way forward for the Opposition? Anything they promise, Modi will improve on the offer. And since he has the power of the incumbent, his promise will be taken more seriously Heading for the first anniversary of his third third term in office, Narendra Modi looks and sounds supremely confident and assured again. The diffidence and stress lines you could see after that verdict of 240 seats are gone, Haryana and Maharashtra victories helped, of course as did the disarray in the INDIA bloc. But there is a deeper and more substantive Justification for this new confidence, bordering on smugness. It is the bankruptcy of new ideas from his challengers. There is nobody no leader, party, or idea that threatens to disrupt national politics today. This is the politics of doldrums. Nothing is rocking the boat, Modi's BJP is the boat in this case and he's happy with where the boat is. " "Are freebies the way forward for the Opposition? Anything they promise, Modi will improve on the offer. By now, Modi's challengers should under stand the downside of reducing their politics to transactionalism. A transactional voter has no lay alty. They will go for the highest bidder. Where does the Opposition go then? They can not fight Modi on religion, no matter how many temples they visit or which livery or threads they wear. Nationalism? Don't even try. That platform should have been built over the past 11 years. You cari't do it now, when the last train has left. Caste is the flavour of the season for Modi's rivals. Apart from caste-based parties, the Congress can achieve zilch playing the caste census card. A party designed to be a large umbrella under which all get a share of power and thrive looks like a caricature talking of caste census. Brings back to me the Immortal line that Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto spoke when he migrated to Pakistan: "When Punjabis (the vast majority in Pakistan) speak Urdu, it sounds as if they're lying." The Congress tending to be a caste-census party, and offering social justice through that, sounds just like that: As if it's lying. They are also digging a most around what should have been their expanding mainstreaming politics. " By special arrangement with The Print more
Offering freebies before elections can be problematic because it may influence voters' decisions unfairly and undermine the democratic process. It risks turning elections into contests of who can offer the most incentives rather than focusing on policies and governance. This practice can also strain public finances and set unsustainable precedents. more

BJP state governments, especially those heading for elections, are already expanding agricultural MSP. The Haryana government, for example, has extended MSP to all 24 major crops from the previous 14. If you check out the full-page advertisements in newspapers these days, you also read a plethora of other freebies in Haryana: LPG cylinders at just ₹500 to 4.6 million families. A free milk scheme for schoolgirls, and the waiver of canal water cess. Then, there is free bus travel for all members of families with incomes of up to 21 lakh for up to 1,000 kilometres a month. The BJP had been ridiculing similar schemes in Delhi, Karnataka and Telangana. This was the definition of revdi. more
We all must wake up and make enough noise to be heard for stopping all freebies in any form, particularly based on gender, caste or so, all freebies from tax payers money before elections or even promise of freebies during elections must be made illegal and we through these forums must take this up at all levels please JAGO BHARAT JAGO more
