How to reduce triglycerides
2. Aerobic exercise- Running on a consistent basis was my mantra,
3. Strength training- 2-3 times a week (30 min each session),
4. Adequate sleep- I increased my sleep duration from 5 hours to 7+ hours per night,
5. Lose weight (if overweight)- I lost 25+ kg over three years (from nearly 100 to 71 Kg now),
6. Prefer healthier fats & oils for cooking,
7. Abstain from alcohol (for those who consume alcohol),
8. Stop smoking (applies to smokers),
9. Screen for diabetes and hypothyroidism (as triglycerides may be elevated in these conditions),
10. Look for adverse effects of drugs (in applicable cases)- Diuretics, Estrogen and progestin, Retinoids, Steroids, Beta blockers, etc. These drugs may cause an increase in triglyceride levels. more
