NRIS in fix
There are some new rules now where NRIs before they can deposit their money need clearance from custome officials at airport.
This is ridculous. If someone has 60000 of gifts money in a locker in India collected over a few trips, they are going to be running around.

We have seen Indian mentality how every one has tried to convert their black money into white by depositing in some ones account or asking people having less cash to deposit in their account. Govt gave clean chit for deposits by housewives upto Rs 2.5 lakhs and this facility has also been misused by many by depositing money into the bank accounts of their parents who were earlier deserted by them. I have also come across many NRI's who have also done similar manipulations and depositing their relatives money into their NRO accounts when these NRI's have multiple accounts and thinking that they would escape detection by the Govt since for NRI's giving PAN is not mandatory while opening accounts. more

They are just trying to make sure NRI don't wash their local friends Black money by you showing the INR at landing with you . Surely you can show it was a gift with a note from whom it was given ,or bank /ATM withdrawal slip to justify it . If not think of it as a tax to help clean India and bear the loss . more
