I am residing in Second St., Baba Nagar, Villivakkam, Chennai. Rarely sanitary workers collect Wastes from the house holds. Due to the inaction of the Municipal Corporation workers, some of the residents dump the wastes near the EB transformer which is in the entrance of the locality. If we go to the collecting yard, both the two bins are brim full many days, giving fowl smell many a times.
Sewerage blocks is of regular nature and water is stagnated in the man-holes causing ground water contamination. Metrowaters staff advise the residents to rise the floor height of toilets and bath rooms instead of regular cleaning and pumping of sewerage water. Sometimes, the reply from the officials is " pumping system" failure.
If the staff/officials work with full involvement, these problems can be solved. Pollution control board should take note of these issues and ensure that ground water is not polluted due to sewerage blocks and also advise both departments to take regular action in this direction. This is most essential in view of the wide spread incidents of viral, dengue, typhoid fevers.
