Madurai (MDU)

Well maintained. May be it requires fine tuning occasionally to sustain. There are a few platforms which appear to be never put in use. I wonder why so.

Madurai junction is a well maintained railway station. However, there are few minor suggestions which can help the passengers.
1) Currently, there is only one foot overbridge and an escalator/descalator. So when a train arrives at a platform, people rush to exit the platform.
2) Please provide directions in the foot-over bridge such as "Meenakshi Amman Temple/ Ellis Nagar". This would be really helpful for the tourists.
3) Have a digital signboard in all the platforms informing the arrival and departure of a train with complete details such as train number, origin, destination, etc
4) Air-conditioned resting rooms for AC passengers similar to how KSRTC provides for its AC passengers in Shanti Nagar, Bangalore will be really helpful in the summer season.

1. There is one building constructed by the Railways near the Main Entrance of the Junction. Since the completion of the building construction, it is not opened and not used for either Railways or by the Public. Necessary actions should be taken to open the building.
2. The number of platforms are not sufficient in the Junction. Dindigul and Rameswaram bound trains are leaving from the same platform in both directions. Some passengers board the wrong train.
3. The 2 storied two wheeler parking in the West Entry is too small and barely accommodates few hundred vehicles. A much bigger one should be constructed. There is a lot of space in the Western side of the station.
4. A new foot over bridge should be constructed with escalator facility near the main entrance.( at the demolished old steel FOB site)
5. Checking at the West entry is not sufficient.
6. Additional exit should be provided in the first platform near the FOB.

The digital display to loacte coaches is not working most of the time. Also just few minutes before train arrival are announcements done with regard to change of platforms leading to chaos.

Attracts huge tourist crowd. MDU is hub for southern Tamilnadu. high floating passengers. passengers from adjoining districts of Ramnad, Theni, Virudunagar, Dindugal use this station more. Hence amenities, cleanliness, public address system etc to be improved much, DRM should pay visit to the station often and supervise the system.
