10 ways to be safe on UP Highways- UP Police

Crimes against women continue with the incident in Greater Noida last night. Here are 10 ways in which you can keep yourself safe, as suggested by the UP Police last year:

1. Don’t give lifts to strangers or people who look suspicious

2. Keep emergency supplies such as medicines, water and milk for kids with you

3. Be careful when you see obstructions such as trees or stones on the roads.

4. If something hits the windscreen, windows or bonnet, don’t stop the car

5. Don’t discuss your destination or travel plans at any roadside eatery or dhaba

6. Be cautious during night journeys and keep equipment like spare tyres.

7. If someone says your vehicle is leaking petrol or diesel, only stop at a police station or toll booth

8. If you feel someone is following you, promptly inform the police

9. If you want to change your tyre after a puncture, do it only after locking the doors and be cautious

10. To relieve yourself, use a dhaba, hotel or toll plaza instead of a lonely spot. more

Appreciated all above inputs. Contribute to your own safety by adopting personal safety measures rather than relying on the support of the authorities. SELF DEFENCE IS THE BEST DEFENCE. more
Dear all, Thoughts and suggestions shared by all members here are perfect. We can take the safety measures and try not to travel after dusk, but what happened near jewar few days back has showed that people were travelling in emergency, when the terrible accident happened with them. When we talk abt informing police ,how it helps when the help never reaches on time. The situation can only change by proper policing and prompt punishment to goons. I'm still hopeful that situation will change soon but anyhow we need to take care of us and our loved ones by ourself. Regards- more
Unfortunately, road journies have become unsafe in UP for the last so many years. There was some hope that with the change of government, the situation would improve. That has still not happened. One reason is that police in UP are without any control, and it is difficult to control them at short notice. As such, it is for us to take precautions. First of all, we should avoid traveling on inter-city roads after dusk. Secondly, we must equip ourselves for our journey as suggested by others above. Every suggestion is good and should be followed to the extent possible. The government needs to separate policing from local level politics, give them training, including in soft-skills and make their jobs better. more
Keep some tools also for safety instead they attack you try to attack them on your self defence even the criminals in police dress because no police man is instructed to stop your vehicle in between check post where safety arrangement are available. more
Dear madame, - Your advisory safety measures are appreciable. - But, how does it help, in incident like gang rape, of last night on Gtr Noida E way? - New CM Yogi Ji, Mesmerised the Public with his Oratory & displayed a ray of Hope. However, the Ground reality, in many context, especially, law & Order, has not changed in UP. - It's my firm conviction that If POLICE & Politicians are serious about it & if they dont make it a money making business, the Criminals can be brought to book, within no time & Crime can be controlled. Alas, except action on TV, nothing else is done. Only Lip Service is accorded to this serious problem. - With regards more
