Corruption in India - Success Stories

Corruption is a deep rooted disease of Indian societies for decades now and more or less it is accepted by our societies and families without much opposition from either of the ends. Corrupts are admired & respected because of their money & muscle powers earned through corruption. Their families do never feel ashamed of displaying their wealth & power earned through corruptions. Though reduction in corruptions and eradication thereof in India are not impossible but it needs extra ordinary efforts, courage and firm resolution with mirror like character because this will directly collude with the interests of those who by hook or crook are in the centre point of money & muscle powers coupled with appropriation of administrative powers. Naming and shaming of the corrupts in public services may work to some extent in putting the reins on corruptions but as pointed out earlier, this would be a risky exercise, both legally and physically without possessing solid proofs and evidences, as accused are much powerful in every respects and could go to any extent to harm the petitioners. more  

As I know, you cannot call a fellow corrupt unless it is proved in the court of law. Hence, naming and shaming, etc may attract a legal case against you as damaging one's honour. Most of the corrupt people are powerful both financially and by status.... Fighting a case against them needs money, time, and courage. Almost all whistle blowers have faced very difficult situations and threat to their life, reputation...... NGOs may act against the corrupt...... Individuals can't..... more  

AMDG// ...Dear Everyone, In reference and in response to the message/s posted and/or the question/s raised by Ms. Julia G from the United States of America, I am obliged to state as follows: 1. corruption exists in various forms almost in all countries of the world, even though this fact ought NOT to be considered as a justification or even an excuse for the commission and/or overlooking and/or disregarding such "evil" anywhere (including in our own country); 2. those who give and/or offer and, thus, encourage corruption by bribery are to be blamed equally as the ones who accept any bribe - even in the light of the old proverb, "Two wrongs do not make a right"; 3. certain "bodies" e.g. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India have become comparatively more active than ever before in encouraging people to report on facts concerning bribery an/or even any money inappropriately and/r unlawfully demanded by any government employee or administrative servant - the CBI-officers of this country have also repeatedly been sending messages on to cell-phones of individual members of the public requesting to report such matters...; 4. proper education on THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA as well as proper guidance on each individual's legitimate rights are also not merely essential but inevitable as well in order to combat corruption anywhere and everywhere...! 1. One of the best way to reduce corruption is to make anti-corruption a profitable business (build an eco-system around it). Rewarding whistle blowers. Some reward systems are there, but there is not enough awareness among public. ecosystem should be built (e.g.: Diploma in anti-corruption or catching benami properties or certification courses). As of now only few thousand government officers work on anti-corruption effort and few NGOs. Anti-corruption is a $12 trillion industry (much bigger than Indian IT industry). NGOs' may fight for some time, but NGOs' run out of gas (how to fund the NGO etc ...). Fight greed in a professional way. If persons can make a living out of anti-corruption, it would lead to less corrupt society. 2. Naming and Shaming works to some extent : Corruption has become endemic in society (in India, it is slowing changing though). There are several reasons for corruption. e.g.: Each year govt identifies and after due prosecution, govt should publish 10 most corrupt persons. Spittoons/Garbage dumps should have pictures of these persons. 3. Marriages/Schools/Communities: Attack corruption from multiple angles Details of corrupt Persons should be kept in public domain and easily accessible. e.g.: Persons who are convicted of Rape charges are kept in public domain and persons can access it. If a person is planning to marry, he/she is going to check the corrupt persons database about the person/in-laws. This way corrupt persons won't get decent proposals. If corrupt persons (like Rape convicts) details are published, slowly real estate value is going to depend on whether corrupt persons live in that community or not. (It will take time,but slowly it will happen) 4. Education based on values : Building the character should happen at schools. 5. Go for more digital economy : e.g.: Computerized train reservation system reduced corruption to some extent. 6. Catch the big fish : Once big fish are caught, automatically it will lead less corrupt society. 7. Compensation of officials : Compensation of police/etc ... should be in such way they could manage decent life. e.g.: If Police are paid less, they are likely to indulge in corruption. 8. To pass the lokpal bill in parliment political will should be there. Most of congress and other MP are all corrupted. One has to weed them off from their seat. More over naming and shaming a person in an office where we go is more risky as they are ready to do anything against us. I thought Marxist will weed off corruption but now it is very high in kerala. For each job like water connection and electricity connection one has to shell out money or they will delay the work. Police also knows it but no action. more
