Corruption in Resident welfare Associations
I am a member of a resident welfare association. Recently (28.12.20) I demanded an inspection of documents including an advocate's bill reportedly paid for a huge and disproportionate amount to defend a case against the Association by a member. It is suspected that a major part of this amount has been used to bribe. The President has been denying inspection of the said document so far. I have reported the matter to the District Register to order the Association to permit inspection as provided in TN registration of Societies Act 1975. But the real problem is Registration Dept is also not free from Corruption as Madras High court itself has remarked. I welcome suggestions and advice. Can Transparency international help with technical help or advice to bring transparency in Societies Registered under TN Registration of Societies Act 1975. more

Its become a common practise that the welfare association positions are occupied by corrupt people and they get favours from the contractors and AMCs. Their behaviour itself is like don and they dont share the accountn details and not willing to let new members hold posts. If any new member becomes preseidennt, secratory or treasurey they creat lot of problems to him and ensure that he quits and the gang hijacks the position. This is one main reason for the exorbetant maintenance charges in apartments and flats...All the flat owners should question this and there should be more transparency more

This is comman practice to fleece residents by builders or by RWA propped up by builder . I know of one builder in jaipur who has not handed over corpus fund collected from owners ,to the Residents society.he has installed his proxies ,not owners ,to operate the bnk account of society . A RWA amicable to builder has control of Society .three years of dispute has not yielded any results. Case has gone to RERA , so much good for builder - he continues to enjoy benefits of crores of rs. Until resolution of case ,which is any body 's guess ,when it will get solved . Any suggestions .. ? more

Corruption ought to be seen when the responsibility is not shared by others. Let us not question that the residence welfare association is not maintaining records, but you help them to maintain the records. more
