FSS, FAT,SUGAR,SALT ARE ESSENTIAL FOR SURVIVAL : RDA, GUIDELINES ( RECOMMENDED DAILY ALLOWANCE)

TO BE KEPT IN MIND AND FOLLOWED:

R.D.A. GUIDELINES : (daily ie for the whole day)
Energy: 8,400kJ/2,000kcal
Total FAT: less than 70gm
Total SUGARS: 90gm
Total SALT : 2.4gm as SODIUM
Saturates: less than 20gm
Carbohydrate: at least 260g
Protein: 50g.

The CSE Analysis reveals that the brands have concentration of Salt and fat multiple times the R.D.A [Recommended Dietary Allowance ] The different Brands contained 2.4 to 6.7 times the RDA .

Preview YouTube video Food safety: Dangerously high levels of salt and fat in Indian junk food

This is about the foods that are prepared in the factories and Restaurants and some times at households also. Some of the foods contain Fat content 2.1 to 5.6 times the RDA, In several Packaged foods.

These 3, FSS are not only added for taste , but human body requires them also for Calories.
BUT THE COMBINED TASTE OF THESE 3, FSS EATEN TOGETHER TRIGGER A STRONGER REWARD SIGNAL IN THE BRAIN, CONSUMER CRAVING DEVELOPS THAT TURN TO ADDICTION TO THAT BRAND.

Beware of commercial firms in their greed to make huge profits combine the 3 ingredients in high quantities to hook the consumers into Addiction to the Brand so that more is sold to generate more profit.

June 2019 : Childhood obesity is now an epidemic in India. With 14.4 million obese children, India has the second-highest number of obese children in the world, next to China. The prevalence of overweight and obesity in children is 15%. IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS CATERING TO UPPER-INCOME FAMILIES, THE INCIDENCE HAS SHOT UP TO 35-40%, INDICATING A WORRYING UPWARD TREND.

FSSAI comes out with regulations for packaged foods. For eg. Take a popular brand of snacks such as Khatta meetha : Latest composition:

Nutritional Facts Serving size: 1 Cup (35g)Serving per container: 6 (Note the size of the serving is 35 gm .This 35 gm supplies just around 5 % of RDA as we will be taking other food items also like meals etc, 3 times. The full pack size is 210gm )

Calories: 200Calories from (10% of the daily calorie intake)
FAT:130Total fat:14gSaturated fat: 3.5g- RDA -70 g – 5%
*SODIUM :130mg – RDA – 2.4gm as SODIUM . 6 Grams of sodium chloride (common salt) -- 5%
SUGARS: 3g - RDA - 90 gm 3%
CARBOHYDRATES:14g - RDA – 260gm 5.38.%
protein:4g Fiber:2g .

Note the size of the serving is only 35 gm (roughly 3 Table spoons.)and the pack size is 210gm . If we are conscious about this, it is snacks for enjoyment. if we don’t and go beyond 35 gm it becomes junk food. Then we witness change in girth, weight, heart beat, triglycerides.

Try and develop in children a taste towards fresh leafy vegetable and fruits , to replace / RESTRICT FSS foods that are manufactured with an ulterior motive towards profiteering . more

Yes I agree Nutrition education for consumer is very important but equally the influencer (chefs/ recipe shows on Indian TV channels- using large amounts of fat, sugar and salt ) and educators must meet certain level of qualification on nutrition and health to qualify as educators. more
If this warning is based on CSE's finding, you have to think again.CSE started with right intention and purpose by late Mr.Anil Agarwal who left all his wealth ( an estimate is Rs.400 crores) and the current incumbent uses many methods to amass wealth.Majority of their reports are made to please some and sponge some for a price. more
It is because of public awareness. FSSAI should educate the consumers. more
What Sri Daniel says is very true. more
Consumers new reason for sugar reduction is health concerns. Health indicators driving need for calorie reduction are obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Non-nutritive sweeteners when used carefully may aid in reducing total energy intake and assist with weight loss/control while providing beneficial effects on related metabolic parameters. Goal is simple. Help make plant based foods that people crave. The key to unlocking their full potential is to rewrite food design rules. Unravelling food's secrets is to explore how individual ingredients work together, focusing on important sensory experiences that drive consumer enjoyment. more
