Is smart city real or just gas

The ministry of urban affairs and housing yesterday announced awards to smart cities (see attached) Many cities are in the list.

However when I speak to family members or friends in some of these cities they say there isnt much in the ground in the name of smart city. What Am I missing.

Can circle members from Indore coimbatore bhopal jabalpur chandigarh ahemdabad sagar udaipur lucknow kolkata kakinada pimpri surat agra please comment and advise if ur city has become smart city unless a colony has been developed and that is the definition of smart city.

I am lost on this. Isnt media like times of india hindustan times hindu indian express supposed to question this or are they printing whatever govt pushes to them? more

We are yet to see the first standards coming out of BIS.....rest is time pass more
smart city is nothing but a slogan and wasting of public money . they gave slogan of smart city but forgot existing city . more
Interesting topic picked by the member w/o knowing the basics of smart city , u must have read Jatish Shah adding to it is a city which is self sustaining w/o any help from outside , i.e it cleans its waste , produces enough air ,enviornment, have all work and living space, entertainment , malls, food, all in vicinity of walking or cycling w/o use of any GAS emitting polluting transport . A planned city w/o illegal construction ,but with defined walkways , parks etc etc Then comes the people who are educated enough to maintain the same at the same state i.e cleanliness and are mentally fit to sustain as a developing society. Lastly comes technology where u use max. technology to use and sustain all defined parameters w/o disturbing ecological balance . All this costs money in billions so everything is done step wise , its not vodoo magic . Also u can visit smart city expo happening every year in delhi Pragati maidan, i being from delhi and tech pro , have been doing so since many years . You can visit Ghandhinagar , Gujarat to get a feel of smart city , just an advice more
it is total gas whether Indore, gwalior jabalpur or any other city few changes are though better to be categorised as smart city more
If memory serves me right, the "smart city" slogan was used coincidentally around the sane time when India was awarded tech jobs. What is a "smart city"" as envisioned by the GoI? I prefer smart people to smart city. more
