Plastic Wrappers abound

There seems to be a very strong fmcg lobby because of which we still see wrappers of lays chips, haldiram bhuja, coke bottles and ice creams. Media editors also must be collecting booty from these fmcg walas as it doesnt write about this issue.

LC Managers survey is very apt but I doubt there are any takers in central or state govts

Yah it is true that still the banned grade plastics are used. Though most departmental stores use degradable ones for packing, and brown covers are used. Smaller traders manage to use the thin non degradable plastic bags. It is really a wonder how it comes to the market when there is periodic raids in the factories, distribution points etc. more
If the government is serious they can go after the manufacturers of plastic bags. As long as it is available people will use it. Currently is there any alternative to plastic to ship products from Big Basket or any such vendors. Paper bags are being used by Big Basket and Amazon in some instances. more
Yes it is absolutely right. The amount of packing material used for wrapping & Packing....PULSES & CROCERIES..OILS & FATS [GHEE-Paneer-Cheese]. Leave alone confectionery. Plenty I can not explain...My daughter[stays in Visakhapatnam] buys from BIGBASKET....door delivery monthly bill not less than 41-45 K...All are packed in Thick polyethylene sheets of 100 microns.. Total amount of waste generated in a month is about 4-5 Kg. This is only 1 family of 6.Now getting curries, snacks, Roties, PARATHAS [both Malabari & North Indian as well as aloo Parathas. Bakery items etc. from good restaurants. All these waste [packing wastes] comes around 1.5-2 Kgs a month. Now a days the P & F is about 3-4 %.In this way after 10 years the JUNK yard will occupy 30 % of Land.. Many people burn the waste packings. If it is dumped out side...first a strong foul smell will emit. Second Rag pickers will stir the heap for re usable scrap.. Afterword's pig's and dogs and other animals make the area worst. The most worst thing [when] it rains for an hour, it is beyond imagination. Our friends Local Circle thinkers should highlight the issue. more
Products in sachets for one and two rupees are very convenient for most people who cannot afford buying in larger quantities. Again this is the population who do not care much about pollution and garbage. The only way out is for us to avoid such small packaged products and carry our own bags while shopping. Those who still believe in government doing anything in this regard can continue dreaming, because they simply do not care. more
