Misuse/ excessive use of pesticides.

Use of pesticides/ biocides/ herbicides is expanding without any controls. Despite the fact that the state machinery has the capacity to control, the machinery itself is involved in support to the manufacturers of the drugs putting not only the farmers but the general public at risk of toxicity directly or through the food chain. Malwa region of Punjab should arouse interest in the excessive use. Systemic/ biodegradables may provide a solution. Just a thought for the people and a cue for the government. more

If the farmers are properly guided in proper use of pesticides/ biocides/ herbicides, then things can be within control. more
Farmers are told to use this and that and they use it without any proper knowledge to earn some profits,Each village has some sarpanch ,they should allow only those chemicals recommended and sold by the authorised departments of the Government to curtail such health hazard chemicals, pesticides etc. more
Farmers are to be made aware of this thru mass media. more
There is a strong lobby of drug and chemical manufacturers across the world, and India is no exception. In fact, this lobby is extremely influential in USA, and the influence of US drug manufacturers is widespread across the world. The situation cannot improve unless there is a massive public education scheme to make people self-realize the pitfalls of using them unless it is highly inevitable for health reasons. Another area of concern is household chemicals which people tend to OVERUSE in the name of keeping the surroundings bacteria free! The social media can be made good use of to spread the message to people across the world, notably in Asia and Africa! more
Farmers need training on optimum use of fertilizer water, fertilizers and pesticides as well as use of natural alternatives. Govt's initiative of soil health card is welcome in this regard. This support needs to be expanded. more
