Most of the illustrated hyper fruits are not available in our cities and towns and wherever available, their quantities are too inadequate to meet the demand resulting in their sky high prices taking them away from the reach of the majority of our people. Preaching and practising are two different entities. more
FSSAI is a paper tiger with some career clarks drawing fat salaries to nourish their families - yes, you can suggest them next time they buy fruits for home think of hyper more
I was introduced to litchi fruit as a student in Punjab University, Chandigarh, summer school for National Science Talent Students, and also in Patiala's Punjabi University, in the late sixties. However the litchi fruit available in Mumbai where I worked eight years and those available did not compare in quality to what was served to us in Punjab and Haryana or in Delhi. My latest experience with eating litchis was in June 2019 second Sunday when I chanced upon litichi vendors in Adyar, who told me the fruit were grown in Kerala. As I had not eaten litchis for a long time I managed to eat the same (after washing well) over the next two days while sharing the same with my domestic retainer. I found that the next day I had severe muscle cramps all over the body and suspecting either food poisoning or blood poisoning, admitted myself to a hospital where my Creatinine level had gone up from normal 1.1 to 2.5. While it came to normal over two days, I was perplexed about the turn of events but after a few days came to learn about malnourished kids' dying in UP after eating litchi fruit. I wonder if there is a connection between my sudden indisposition and eating litchis in Chennai in June. Better to stick to local fruit, I feel. Litchi is not a hyper fruit. it is grown all over the world tropics. litchi poisoning has no basis especially kids dying of it consumption. That's incompetent medicos wild imagination to grab head lines. Yes, high in sugar, even if you suffer from diabetes and load you tummy with the pulp, nothing really can happen. but yes, if you have sufficient or even have moderate quantity of cooked food be ready for aggravation in an existing condition if it tends to more
Perhaps FSSAI itself is busy getting their health in shape with the hyper local fruits as breakfast, Mid-Day meal and diner. Once they are satiated and satisfied, they will then think of people's education in nutrition. more
