RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS NOT BOUND BY LEGAL METROLOGY DEPT.& CAN'T BE PUNISHEDfor CHARGING OVER M.R.P.
– Court order a couple of months back . See the attached news item .
Supreme court Bench of Justices Rohinton Nariman and Navin Sinha rejected the plea that Hotels and Restaurants charging over M.R.P. should be taken to task.
The ambience provided by the Hotels should be accounted for while considering the issue – the bench .
What can we do ? Other than going in for a P.I.L. for these Questions .
The Questions that arise if this Practice is to be followed :
* Should the Hotels with Ambience be allowed to sell Common Branded products with standard M.R.P. printed at higher rates in selected places ? - that itself is a violation .
* It will block the common person’s choice to have his favourite Brand .
* SHOULD THESE ESTABLISHMENTS BE ALLOWED TO SUPPLY ONLY FOODS AND SOFT DRINKS , LIQUOR AND WATER THAT ARE PREPARED UNDER THE SAME AMBIENCE. And barred from selling the other bottled ones with a common M.R.P. ? more

Best way to discourage these Restaurants for high prices of bottled water is to ask for water in jug which they are bound provide. If any restaurant refuses to provide plain drinkable water in jug the matter should be brought in to notice of concerned govt. department. more

WATER IS A COMMITMENT AND SHOULD BE SOLD AT mrp,THE COURT ORDER SHOULD BE CHALLENGED.The arguments of decor etc. should not be taken into consideration as they are charging great % in all other prices of food etc.One Roti costs more than 2-3 kgs .of flour,same goes to other food courses so why this Water .Drink normal RO water supplied by hotels its the same,do not increase your blood pressure on such unthinkable order passed by a judge. more

It needs reconsideration. For products which are readily available in the market for a fixed price, no one should charge more, if it is not a product of the Hotel or Restaurants. more

AIR IS FREE AS OF THIS DAY! WELL MAY BE IN COUPLE DECADES.....DUNNO I MAY HAVE TO LUG MY PC - PERSONAL CYLINDER AROUND! WATER IS THE NEXT ESSENTIAL AND DIFFERENTLY TAXED.....AND THEN THOUSANDS DYING OVER MSP - MIN SUPPORT PRICE OR SUBSISTENCE PRICE OR SURVIVAL PRICE I DON'T KNOW BUT THIS IS INCREDIBLE LAND INDEED. AND STRAIGHT UP AFTER YOU'VE FINISHED LIVING/EXISTING/SURVIVING (AS THE CASE MAY BE!) IS THE REAL COURT OF YOUR THIS LIFETIME FOR SURE. more

With all due respect to the court order, my point is that when a product readily available in the market for a fixed price that says the MRP and the same product without any value addition been sold in a star hotel at a higher price has no logic. In that case water bottle normal and cooled can have different prices. more
