Stop calcium carbide imports

I recently learned that calcium carbide is imported from China, Taiwan and South Africa. Fruits ripened with calcium carbide are extremely hazardous to the body, as it contains traces of arsenic and phosphorus.

Why does fssai not work with Commerce Ministry to ensure the calcium carbide supply to India is completely cut off? Cant be that hard with only a hand ful of ports we have.

Please advise more

I am also in support of seema Mehara ,at the same time it's missuses must be checked by the concern authority. more
As many items are allowed for imports with due controls and undertaking on their utilization, Calcium Carbonate may also be channelized for imports and monitored for usage by the authorities concerned more
I am also of the same opinion as Seema Mehra more
Dear Seema : It seems that you know very little of the way Indian Govt. Depts work.!. One Dept does not know what the other Department is doing or importing..!!.. In such a situation, how do you expect such cooperation between the Agriculture ministry and commerce ministry to collaborate in the stopping of Cal Carbide imports..??.. Even if the import is banned, there are many land routes by which such chemicals could be made available in plenty by our unscrupulous traders..!!.. The best solution would be 1) Ban use of Cal Carbide in Fruit processing and 2) Enforce the Ban thru effective use of FSSAI powers and punishing such users with severe jail terms..!!... more
There has to be strict check for ripening fruits, the the person found guilty must imprisoned life time more
Importing Calcium Carbide may not be possible, but putting restriction is possible. Let the FSSAI workout and submit proposal to the appropriate government authority. more
