ecommerce discounts curtailing by Government
Read yesterday in news that Government of India is looking at curtailing discounts and cashbacks on ecommerce sites.
That is absolutely unfair for consumers like me who buy 50% of our total purchases on ecommerce sites and apps. Now even 50% of my groceries come via these sites.
If you plan to cut discounting by ecommerce sites, you need to also plan to cut discounting by big bazar and reliance.
By pulling such tactics, you may get vote of the trader but dont you upset the consumer in the process. Expect localcircles to take up this issue on behalf of consumers with Govt departments. more

The "discounts" given to us are recovered in some other form. So it is benefit to a few at the cost to many in the society. What is the cost of the item that you wish to purchase and why should you get it for less than the cost? Our greed knows no bounds. However, it is just a matter of "my greed" over others. So at the individual level we want to be pampered with such bounties and we resist any such attempts when it benefits others and not us. This is selfishness, plain and simple. Should government not regulate the e-commerce sites? Remember that most of them are owned by MNC, whose only motive is domination and business profit. So even if we get "discounts" today, we will pay for them in the long term. If the item has to be sold for less to you, it has to be procured for less and the people who actually produce get squeezed. Eventually they will need loan waivers or end up committing suicide. Let us work towards an ethical society. more

Quite Correct! The Government has no business to interfere with trade and commerce. If some one gives discount which benefits the user, what is Government's problem. As regards, the conventional traders, the technology will pursue and their time is running out. That being the flow of river of time, any action on Government's part is against the tide. more

MRP printed for any specific items (for E.g. branded shirt / pants / shoes, etc) are differing store to store, city to town, place to place, which means consumers are not offered with fair price on PAN India basis. Government should address this first. Also I completely depend on online pharmacies for buying medicines for a specific disease and also online pharmacies offers reasonable discounts which otherwise would go to the pockets of giant dealers and would further weak the consumers financially who is already frustrated with physical ailments, huge hospital bills. Government may be aimed at curtailing the market size of Amazon, flipkart, etc. but they should think of consumers who is already burdened by the dealers/distributors. Otherwise Government can limit the maximum discounts offered either online / offline so that both dealers & consumers get benefited. more
