AABATH BHNADHAVA :

The resource post “Vaccine Profiteering being done” has only opened a Pandoras Box to get readers aware on the Pricing.
Adar Poonawalla had come as an “AABATH BHANDHAVAN” – RESCUER DURING A CALAMITOUS SITUATION in 2020. When we and the whole country (even the world ) was in Deep Trouble at a loss where to begin. Then our concentration was on procuring Testing kits, Masks, PPE’s, Hospitals and beds and ICU’s, Oxygen equipment , Cylinders . That was the time Researchers in in U.S & U.K and some other parts were simultaneously thinking on Vaccine and fast tracking to deliver.

Adar Poonawalla and the team of S.I.I. had taken interest and made the right contacts and entered in to Manufacturing Vaccine under SII’s Brand Covishield. The investment is SII’s completely. The company also had such a foresight to procure Machinery and other required accessories to produce in very large scale. The target was to produce 1 Billion doses. Notwithstanding all this he had also promised free Doses to India and a major portion to the domestic consumption at a subsidised rate. India also donated to the neighbours and exported to Mexico earning an appreciation that it was like Sanjivini carried by Lord Hanuman.

IN INDIA THERE IS A PRICING AUTHORITY AND RULES THAT HAVE CLASSIFIED THE MARGINS FOR THE VARIOUS CATEGORY. ANY NEW AND RESEARCH PRODUCT IS EXEMPTED FROM THIS; THAT IS TO ENCOURAGE RESEARCH WORK BY THE PHARMA COMPANIES.
Covishield falls in this category. Before claiming anyone as greedy and Profiteering take a couple of leaves from The Connected consumers, Consumer Participation and from this very own Circle. How many complains we have read about Pricing of Medicines, Stents, ortho Fixtures. Why about the covid19 medicine Remdesivir the cost of which inclusive of taxes is 1568 and the course x 6 = around 9,000 ; but we had complaints of shops charging Rs.34,000 for a course in several instances.

All that we have to understand is that the marginal price rise in the Vaccine will only Encourage the manufacturer to go for further research and alleviate human suffering. more

It is true that each state has to fix the price for the Paid Vaccine dose. But the poor have to be vaccinated Free. As Mr. Padmanabhan said should not permit any middle men in the Vaccine procurement deal. * It should be done by the Central Government at one price all over India. whether Indian mae or forein made. * Allocate the rightful share according to the population figures and also to the extent the Infectivity Rate. There should not be any complaint from the states - LIKE THE RAPHAEL DEL - STRAIGHT TO THE GOVERNMENT WITHOUT MIDDLE MEN. NO BOFORS INCIDENTS IN VACINE DISTRIBUTION PLEASE. more
If the vaccine companies are making a reasonable profit, it us ok. However if the middlepersons and the vaccine related services make a huge profit at the cost of the citizens, that is not acceptable. That is why each state needs to fix the price of the vaccine. more
Currently private hospitals charge between Rs.1000 to Rs1250 for Covishied vaccination .But Govt has announced the prices for Covishied from 700 to 900 only? Why not Govt step in and fix a uniform fee for paid vaccinations? more
In the present circumstances, we should try to vaccinate maximum number of people in minimum time. This will save the life and in turn improve economy faster. This price discussion/war should be avoided. There are quiet a good percentage of people who can afford at charge. If you give free to all then who will bear this expenditure. This will ultimately be covered thru taxes. more
Very true. We want everything free. GOI did not make any advance payment to SII. He invested his own plus the funds he got from Bill & Melinda Foundation and stock piled vaccines to save us. Now even having to pay a reasonable amount to get jabs is opposed by all and sundry. Same for BB covaxin. How in God's name these pharma companies will ever attain the same competence as the foreign ones when neither the Govt nor the public wants to pay a single dime for research? more
