Approval of Imported Products

a lot of imported products are sold in markets like at petrol pump shops, other upscale markets. These include chewing gun, candies, chocolates, packaged food from abroad, shampoos, soaps and the list goes on.

Are these products tested and approved in India. Isnt the govt reponsible to ensure standards are met by these brands as well. Pls advise. more

The point raised is a very valid one....!!...Many of the imported products sold in some rural and semi urban towns are outright ' dangerous '.....and could cause irreparable harm to the user. But, in Indian mind set - where any product can be sold by any outlet without the fear of reprisals ( unless, it causes deaths....!!!...) and the seller's utter lack of " a conscience " - and our own mindset of " chalta hai " - we do have a dangerous market place...!!!... . Some of the children's toys, children's snacks like lolipops, sugar candies have coloring agents which have high lead content. The buying public is illiterate : the seller does not have any guilt conscience and the only motive is " profit " : The Govt. machinery is unconcerned or part of the conspiracy :there are no powerful legal machinery which makes these acts by the seller punishable for such acts.....!!!... . We do have a market place which is a fertile ground for lots of mischief. Hope our market place becomes more safe....!!!... . more
Such imported products should also be approved by Govt. for sale in India. The products should also write approved by Govt. of India, Ministry of ...., Dept. of ....... on the products. Govt should also inform the masses to purchase imported products after approval from Indian Govt., like FDA in USA. more
Don't import anything when we have every facility is available but very strict QUALITY assurance is required failing very strict punishment is necessary for offenders. Give up CHALTA HAI Practice. more
I agree with Rakhi Chand. People are taking benefit of our blind craze not only for foreign products but also some Indian foodies with colourful advts. People should be educated about it. more
