ATM TROUBLES

Many of the ATMs particlularly of Government owned banks such as SBI and KVB are faulty and problematic. The various problems encountered are as follows;
- 7 out of 10 ATMs cannot dispense cash.
- 4 out of 10 ATMS are out of order.
- 3 out of 10 ATMs takes inordinately long time to dispense cash resulting in time-outs.
- 2 out of 10 ATMs, money is not disbursed but amount is promptly debited from the account.
- 9 out of 10 ATMs have only Rs500 notes loaded and do not have Rs.100 notes. This is extremely cumbersome. The very purpose of ATMs is defeated.

Inspite of the above problems we have the banks remind us customers of the stipulations in using own bank ATMs and other bank ATMs for so many number of times. If your bank ATM does not work, is that our fault?.

RBI needs to rework the concept of ATMs. more

What Mr. Vijayakumar and Mr. Maddala have stated are actual status of ATMs of public sector banks. I have a pension account in Indian Overseas Bank. As learnt from its Senior Managers and incharge of the Bank's branch, situated just 50 meters from the ATM, its maintenance and operation is outsourced and only what they and do is either inform the agency operating the ATM about the problem or inform their Hqrs. For past more than a year the ATM has been non-functional. More so even the outer gate allowing entry was uprooted some 2 years back and till date has not been fixed. As new debit or replacement card holders have to invariably key in their card at IOB ATM only for the first time to activate them, all of them have to go to another ATM of the same bank around 2 kms. away to activate these cards. I have also personally noticed same issues raised by Mr. Vijayakumar such as money being debited but ATM not dispensing the same. With most banks insisting greater use of ATMs for cash withdrawal, such incidents become a nuisance necessitating avoidable visits to concerned Bank's branch to get the matter sorted out. more
While I rarely have any necessity to draw cash, which I carry out in the branch itself, I have noticed deterioration in maintenance of ATM, especially of SBI. But the inconvenience caused is so rare, I tend to ignore it. I too believe, while the occasional problem does exist, the resource originator is perhaps seeing a mountain out of mole hill. However, there is no justification for poor maintenance either to any bank or branch. more
