Let the pollution control board takes some extra precautions. more  

An extremely touchy and sensitive subject. On an individual level we all are in agreement that burning of fire crackers has several deleterious effects and needs to be restricted if not avoided all together. But when it comes to taking action at a personal level, we get sentimental and give all sorts of reasoning why we should burst fire crackers at least on a small scale. Large scale motivation especially from school level onward will bear fruit and may be in a couple of years realization will dawn. Col (Dr) A P Gupta (Retd) more  

Only laws can't help the government unless we, the general public, understand the aftermath of burning fire crackers and decide ourselves to keep away from the act during Diwali and other festivals/functions/occasions. Therefore, it is more necessary to publicise in large scale the adverse affects of the gas being emitted on burning fire-crackers on our health and how seriously our environment is affected by the smog being emitted from them. Burning of fire-crackers was substantially reduced during last Diwali on an appeal made from the high offices. This should be done this year as well. Simultaneously, the government should ban importing of all kind of fire-crackers from other countries, particularly from China. more  

Hope during Diwali,functions,festivals etc when crackers are fired,pollution will be less. more
