Beware of OLX and Quikr

So my friend was trying to sell something on OLX and the person sent him the wallet request and misled him to use a link to accept money but he ended up paying 30,000 rupees without realising . And police in pune declined to accept a police complaint.

Can consumer affairs find a fix to this. These peer to peer marketplaces must disable these wallet payments. more

I have had a similar experience with Olyx and Quikr. They tried their utmost to hoodwink me. more
So many cases are noticed related to OLX fraud. Money should be accepted through NEFT only. more
Why cant you make a complaint on cyber crime cell? more
I have also experienced this with OLX. However, since I was aware of payment app very well, could able to identify those misleading/fraudulant transactions. But there are many people in our country which are now being exposed to digital world, platforms to sell/buy used products and e-wallet payments. I don't think OLX or any platforms are responsible for preventing these kind of frauds, not even the e-wallet apps. There are many good e-wallet apps which predict and warn about the fraduant transaction request from any unauthorized person. I must thank to GPay (Google pay) for preventing me to make such payment. We should use social media, print media and electronic media to create such awareness. Otherwise this will impact the trust on 'Digital India'. more
Even they tried with me when I wanted to sell my bed. But I was cautious & saw the message which was showing payment from my side to buyer. Then I tried accepting small transaction for Rs 10/- & lost Rs10/-. Immediately I told him to pay Rs 20/- & received the credit. On confirmation he started forcing me to accept Rs 3,000/- even though what I mentioned selling cost as Rs 2,000/-. Then I told him, I don't have much knowledge in Google pay & hence I will consult my friend who is in police cybre crime. Immediately he disconnected the call. However I was able to get Rs 10/- benefit. Govt or Police or concerned authorities who are regulators of OLX etc where such easy way of cheating is there should make the app user friendly & protect the customers. Otherwise they have to stop such app . more
