Confirm you name is correct before making payment for airline tickets

Yesterday, I booked a return flight ticket through Cleartrip (Air Asia and Indigo) . Due to a oversight on my part and also an issue with the site, my name came out as "India G" instead of "Padmanabhan G" in the ticket, after I made the payment. Immediately, I called them up (they don't have an emailid !! and their chat was not working !!) and told them the mistake. They said they could not do anything, and that I could call the airline and see if they would change it.

Called up Indigo. They said that since it was a total change of name, they would not be able to do it. But since as a special case, they would give a refund if I booked the ticket again and called them up within 1 hour with the new and old PNR number.

I called up Air Asia (again, no email id), their wonderful automated system said that only a couple of spelling changes or the title to the name are allowed. Complete changes are not allowed. And there was no human I could talk to.
So, I booked a return ticket through Indigo, called them up and they have told me that they would refund the amount (hopefully).
I can agree if my travel was within a day or two and if I had called up a couple of days before departure. But, this was almost immediately after booking. Why would anyone want such a change immediately, unless it was a genuine mistake. My loss was the AirAsia ticket (refund was zero)+ the cleartrip fees+the new Indigo convenience fees.
Now,how did this name change happen. Possibly, because, once logged into Cleartrip, there is a column below the name where one has to enter the nativity. In my case it was India (it comes like a drop down). By some unexpected movement of the mouse with my hand, the cursor got positioned in the name field again and somehow I entered an "I". Now, the beautiful Cleartrip application thought that it was the Native field and it showed me the "India" in the list, which I clicked (thinking I was in the native field). And I proceeded to book the ticket and the name came as "India G". I thought of giving the ticket to Mr. Anil Kapoor (??).
And I also saw that, when I was trying to reproduce the problem, the login showed only Facebook and cleartip signin. there was no Google (the one that I had used for logging in). Did they change something after the problem i reported? And this problem would not have occurred if i had not logged in (continued as guest), since guests to not have to enter "Native" !!

So, to summarise, please double check the names in the ticket before making payment for the ticket (airline or any other named ticket) more

Well, I got the full refund from Indigo through cleartrip (after about 3 months) and for Air Asia about 500 - net net loss of about 800. This was after a few calls to Cleartrip. Something is better than nothing. more
Getting air tickets booked through IRCTC is the best and they don't charge any 'conveyance' and/or any other charges excepting the applicable taxes. This is cheapest. Booking tickets through the air lines web-sites is also better and safe rather than booking through any travel agency. more
More on the cleartrip saga: Called Indigo. they cancelled the ticket and have put the full refund in the cancellation. Now, the refund has to be credited by Cleartip. They have credited Rs. 242 instead of Rs. 1143. Tried calling Cleartrip. Their phone always has an unusually large number of callers. So, it is wait for ever. They have a support form to send requests. That does not work (see attachment). more
I prefer to book through an agent. At least then he has to give me a fresh ticket if he makes a mistake. Too many errors are taking place on the web these days, including the ecommerce sites. Do you shopping with your own eyes, and be happy with what you buy. more
