Connected Consumers - Regulation of Horticulture Market in India.

I have been interested in domestic kitchen garden for decades, where I have been planting potted vegetables and seasonal flowers. I purchase seeds and seedlings from local markets. But I find very poor quality of seedlings with very high prices. Casualties are pretty high, sometimes at 70-75 percent. About seeds told to be from reputed companies, at so high that it shames us. One pack contains hardly 20-15 seeds the germination rate is not more than 5-15 and casualties among them is again of a high rate.

Manure sold in small packs is again an eyesore for buyers with prices anywhere around Rs.100/. While I invite views of the fellow interested consumers of such items from the market based on their experiences.

There is another bad experience, there used to be government nurseries in cities, I can speak of some in Delhi. These are being rendered non-functional with very few items on sale probably in a policy that government has no business to be in business. This is a very bad policy of theGovernment, eliminating a sense of competition between the public and private sectors both, in terms of quality and prices. I request the government to please review this and also set up a regulator to take care of research, production and distribution.

Besides, regulate the private sector markets and protect consumer interests. I expect the Manager Local Circle to apprise the Department concerned in the Govt of India. more

Best thing to recycle waste and create manure at home i have recycled my Washing machine planted papaya now flower started blooming more
We experience similar problems, even though we buy seeds and plants from large nurseries or from fertiliser retail shops. It is also true that Government nurseries are mostly ill-maintained. Coming to the point of assistance from State Government Agricultural offices, most of the time the officials are not traceable. They have ready answer of being present at some other village or location as their area of operation is very large. These difficulties are common for both large gardens and home gardens, forcing many to abandon what is a healthy Avocation. more
It seems to me that the government does not want the common people to grow their own food otherwise why this kind of treatment for the common man. I bought marigold seeds and manure and soil and also the little pots for it to germinate but nothing came out of it. Hence I left it at that. more
This is a common experience with the owners of kitchen garden. We are not getting satisfaction for the labour we put in the work. Anyway let us feel satisfied or develop your seed and sampling. more
It could be the soil which might say I am dying because of so much toxicity.... On Wed, 09 Jun 2021 09:06:02 +0530 Ganesh Chand Mathur wrote > more
Sorry, this may not be the reason. I have also experienced the same issue with my kitchen garden. I got more crop earlier, but it is reduced. Even this year, I get less lemons on our lemon tree. more
