Cough Syrup Made in India damaging kidneys causing death

One Delhi based company Maiden Pharmaceuticals has been reported by the WHO to be causing kidney failures in 70 children and deaths in 30.

The brand name it sells is called codiene and its variants.

If in case your doctor has prescribed this killer cough syrup please get rid of it and if children have taken it, get necessary tests done to make sure all is well.

An identical resource by Nishat Khan has been commented upon in detail. In fact, there’s no point on discussing the same issue under different resources. In simple language, this is false alarm and premature attempt at defaming Indian Pharmaceutical Industry. more
We Indians are in the supply of drugs, bulk drug formulations to many countries, since very long period. The present supply of drugs it seems escaped the regulatory agencies protocols. This is only a violation wherein the protocols and regulations are not followed strictly. The violations in the present case has to be probed and the culprits are to be severely punished. Their Licenses have to be cancelled. The persons in the Regulatory board has to be booked and jailed for their gross violation of regulations. more
The problem is that how the doctors prescribed the cough syrup without studying or analysing it's merits and demerits. The prime culprit is though the pharmaceutical company, the doctors are also equally responsible for this tragedy. Severe punishment should be awarded to doctors also, the one who prescribed the cough syrup. For the want of commission doctors without analysing the facts doctors prescribe. It is an inhuman act. If any new drug is introduced the doctors without the bias description of the company Medical representatives, carefully go through the product as he is the person deals the patients. Nowadays doctor profession is a great business not with the service attitudes. more
The ingredients are not time tested on older and young with internal problems. Time tested during last 50 years are available more
Many Pharmaceutical companies in India are making various types of cough syrups including those having Codeine as an ingredient despite its known serious side effects. Not all of them are used in India but are smuggled out of country in bulk to be used for intoxication. I presume our Drug authorities may be aware of the malpractice and WHO might have collected the samples from outside India. more
