District Consumer Protection Council must be set

Since the Consumer Ministry is engaged with us on the platform, I would like to suggest that a district consumer protection council must be set up in each district. This council should meet once a quarter and must have the District Consumer Court Judge, the District Magistrate, representative of state consumer department, 2 VCOs, legal metrology inspectors of the district and 3 active citizens (they could be picked from the localcircles consumer circle).

A district level consumer circle may also be set up in top 100 districts of India and if feasible in all districts.

The department should look at activity in these circles and the district consumer protection councils and give awards to best performers on national consumer days.

Please share what you think of this idea and who from the Department of Consumer Affairs can take it up.

At present the District Consumer Courts are not functioning properly and in many a times it is observed that the President and Members posts are laying vacant, for which the disposal of the cases are mounting. Now, again going for district consumer protection council, if set up in each district, what will be out come ??? Let proper attention be given to the District Consumer Courts. more
Consumer Protection Council protect Traders not Consumers more
Public and Reted Patriots participation if mandated, will help consumers a lot & can be achieved through our circles. more
must be formed & meet more
In India it is the politicians that manage the Consumer Protection. DCPC are provided in the Act. Our consumer activism at district level as very apathetic. I do not know if there is activist-journalist at District and Block Office who could carry news to the media on consumer issues. In most of the States there is no separate Department of Consumer Affairs, not even for name sake there is a Consumer Affairs Department though there are officers for food and public distribution. Consumers in the States at District Level or below have no significant space in the political constituency to protect consumers. more
Nexus between Politicians and Businessmen thus ruining the Indian Public at large through all the means. more
