eCommerce package recycling - Inputs Sought

Several of you have raised the issue about a lot of waste getting generated via eCommerce packaging and the need for recycling it.

Below are some of your inputs. Kindly review them and share additional thoughts on how a workable model can be developed to implement this.

We look forward to your inputs!

eCommerce Package Recycling - Some consumer Inputs

1. The packaging of delivered products should be taken back by the company at deliver in exchange for cashback, reward points or incentive for future purchases

2. eCommerce companies should ensure consumer returns do not require outer eCommerce company packaging

3. Logistics and delivery should be planned such that the delivery boys collecting these empty packaged go back to the merchadise pick up point and deposit them

4. Consumers should also be given the option of scheduling bulk package return (20+ boxes) for incentive and those collections could be executed by an eCommerce company partner

5. Drop off points could also be created for the customers where they could return this packaging in bulk and get the credit, from where the ecommerce company can collect the empty boxes and recycle them

6. A third party package pick up vendor/registered waste recycler could be empanelled by each e-commerce company whose contact details should be mentioned on the card board boxes. more

First of all admit that selling counterfeit products is swindling. This is a crime. The offence need to be compounded before rectifying buyers losses. Therefore I suggest 1. For spurious or defective products, the vendor shall compensate the buyer an amount equal to five times the amount in the original invoice or advertised price as the case may be. 2. The vendor shall also replace the defective or spurious product forthwith at his expense or return the full amount paid by the buyer as desired by him, within 48 hours of lodging complaint 3. The vendor may reclaim his losses through the registrar of companies by filing the defective product and the nature of its defects. 4. The registrar may issue notice to the manufacturer to stop production and make good the losses. 5. The registrar may further report the matter for black listing, cancellation of manufacturing licence and de listing more

Educating the producers and consumers is the key. Meaningful regulation and incentives against generating eCommerce waste may be implemented. Again, this should be debated in order not to financially burden the producers (especially small business owners) and the consumers. Setup campaigns to generate awareness among the reasonable public about the climate impact due to the eCommerce waste (or waste in general). Provide opportunity for public to dispose their recyclable waste in bins installed in secure locations such as police, fire station and any secure govt. locations that are setup with tax payers money. more
There is a strong need of registering E-commerce site with proper KYC norms as many sites have been found with fake addresses, wrong contact details. All these details need to be verified before registering the domain name. 2. All e-commerce sites should invariably provide customer care email ids as many sites just have a form to be filled in by the complaint and submitted online. 3. Many a times it has been noticed with some e-commerce companies supplying defective and wrong items and then keep on replacing again and again defective products and ultimately siphoning off the money paid and then becoming unresponsive thereafter. Some e-commerce companies do not make refund in the manner has been paid but transferring to some wallets. In this process the companies make use of consumers money without any interest liability. The companies need to be mandated with refund of money in the same way the money has been paid by the consumer. If the product has gone back to the company two times, the amount need to be refunded. 4. Any product received dead on arrival need to be replaced within 24-48 hrs of the reporting. The courrier agency which is delivering the replaced product should take delivery of dead items only after the replaced product is supplied. more
