Mr.Daniel, n friends thanks. Mostly the expiry date or shelf life of any perishable food items, cosmetics, medicines even the soaps, Hair oils , toothpaste etc; are decided if religiously followed n checked both by the manufacturers, FDA, INSPECTORS FROM THE TIME OF MANUFACTURING THE TEST SAMPLES ARE TESTED FOR IT'S PROPERTIES , ADDITIVES ACTIVITIES UNDER STORAGE Conditions are mandatory, but difficult to check by consumers except by the taste or smell of food products.we only take it for granted that whatever is printed on such packs n believe it. As a result many times the expiry date goes unnoticed by majority of consumers, because of ignorance about its importance. Now a days it is also under the pressure of MAJORITY OF SUCH MANUFACTURERS GOVT HAS ALSO BOW DOWN AND ALLOWED THEM TO PRINT PACKING DATE N USE BY OR BEST BEFORE THIS IS MAINLY A WAGE STATEMENT. THE PRODUCTS LIKE MILK, BUTTER, ICE CREAMS ,BUTTER OIL OR BISCUITS, BREADS, MILK POWDER , ENERGY PROTEIN DRINKS ALL ARE NOT CORRECT ,UNLESS PRESERVED UNDER PRESCRIBED TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. I HAD GIVEN DETAILS ABOUT SHRIKHAND EARLIER ON THIS SUBJECT.similarly the cosmetics n toiletory products are many times 6-10 months old n the manufacturers claims good for another year as well. By that time it's fragrance, moisture etc; gets diminish gradually so the user doesn't get full benefit of it. We don't have any mechanism that any such samples are checked by any authorities by taking samples from the shops except some times food items like khoya, ghee, . So this is the gray area many times customer have altercation with shop keeper, hardly people contacts the customer helpline of that company, because they get very casual response or no response at all.
