Expiry Dates of Medicines
Overseas many medicines have 6 months of shelf life beyond the expiry dates written on them to be on the safe side for consumers.

Sheetalji, Guptaji is right in his observation. In India only months of manufacturing and expiry with the years is mentioned. Therefore normally it should be safe to consumed the medicine in the month of expiry. But there are number of medicines which are required to be stored under specified conditions like insulin injection etc. However, you should be careful about the place where from you purchased the medicine and keep the bill in case any complaint is required to made. There have been instances where expired medicines were recycled by some unscrupulous dealers by altering the expiry date. I am writing this with my personal experience of dealing with spurious drugs. more

Sheetal ji, is it written on the medicine overseas that they can be used beyond six months of their expiry date?, I do not think so. Use of a medicine till end of the month of expiry is a normal practice, but using expired medicine beyond the published date of expiry, should not be practiced as a general rule. Although I am not a Medical doctor or chemist, but I am writing this based on my experience and earlier discussion with many doctors including my daughter and son in law who are doctors practicing in UK. more
