FCI overbuying to keep farmers happy must stop

FCI has double the wheat and rice mandated by buffer norms.

FCI debt is approximately 250,000 crores. Interest on this is around 8%.

The govt should stop buying wheat and rice, until the stocks come down to the mandated level.

My family, tax paying professionals are paying back for this poor policy and mismanagement.

Stop it. more

Paddy may be substituted with other crops by incentives too. Were the new farm laws necessary for this transition? Laws that too passed unconstitutionally. This is dictatorial. Modi saying what happened on Republic Day, only in attributioning farmers response, makes him sad! He brought about the protests, especially when he can take the bills back. Bills must be subject to parliamentary debate with stakeholders', i.e. farmers' participation and be brought constitutionally. From his vantage point being 7 year as prime minister, requires consensual approach. Otherwise Modi's unilateralism will get stronger only, arrogating for himself all decision making authority. more
Politicians had been playing with the tax payers money with impunity. It is high time that tax payers must raise voice to minimize misuse of funds in every field so that tax burden is curtailed. There is wide spread corruption in procurement and distribution of food grains. Excess procurement must stop as food grains are stored in open which leads to wastage and pilferage. It is not the food grains but tax payers money. As such, any procurement of food grains should be need based. Management experts should be involved in handling this business as dirty vote bank politics has already led to mis-governance. more
Sneha has rightly brought out that MSP needs to be put on hold. It is a gross wastage of Public money and the system is reeking of corruption. In the long run it needs to be done away with it. Should any contingency arise some better system can always be put in place depending upon the requirement at that time. more
