give free hand to online medicines

I am senior citizen having treatment for diabetes and other problems. My monthly bill reaches for insulin alone to 1600 and rest of the medicines to heart related elements etc... about 3500/- through pharmacies purchase. Quarterly the bill accumulates around 12500 to 15000/-. For the past few months I tried to get the medicines online where the bill for a month was reduced by 25% and genuine medicines were delivered at my door step. Does the court/government want to help the people or the pharmacies for their laws and support pharmacies who make not less than 200% profits and senior citizens like us, to suffer losses? What is the justice. Let the government provide pass a bill that the medicines at pharmacies too with trade marks on it to be sold maximum 25% higher than the generic medicines available in the market. I fully agree with Santipriyo Das and ashok Ashok in this regard and request the health ministry to give free hand to online medicines which will help many and specially those who are senior citizens. more

Basically MRP of medicines seems to be more than double the manufacturing cost. This has to be rationalised and brought to a reasonable level.Govt intervention is needed. more
Somehow it seems that the Center is having a disconnect with common public where the plight and pleadings of people is ignored. Farmers first, Army Jawaans and now Elders who find Online Medicine buying easy, the Government wants to kill this by stopping Online Medicine sales. They paid a price for this dimsight in Rajasthan, MP & Chhatisgarh but it seems they still haven't learnt a lesson. more
I am a physician. Much of the difference in cost of branded generics & generic medicines is actually due to the advertisement, marketing, distribution and doctors incentives costs of the companies. Many pharmacists who do not have qualifications are dispensing medicines without knowledge about them nor the medicine prescribed by doctors (as per law). Even if pharmacists are to provide alternative cheaper brands, they should have knowledge of medicines. On top of that, there are many small companies which make medicines without licenses and distribute it through pharmacies (including ayurveda & homeopathy). The pharmacists do not have the wherewithal to verify the licenses and antecedents of the company. Doctors are aware of which companies are good and which companies have a doubtful history. In fact, during conferences, these things are discussed among doctors. That is why, doctors prefer branded generics compared to generics. Only corporate hospitals are the ones which insist on prescribing only the original brand and that too, in their own pharmacies. Hence, if online pharmacies can bring down the costs of medicines to patients, can provide quality medications, can verify prescriptions and have pharmacists on their payroll who are genuinely qualified and can verify each and every prescription, I am okay with it. BUT, please note that they also should be brought under the ambit of the law and regulators and should undergo regular inspections such as maintenance of proper warehouse facilities and cold chain for vaccines etc. more
