Hotels in India - Inputs on Issues

Friends,

Today we would like to seek your inputs on the various issues faced by consumers at hotels in India.

Hotel industry currently does not have a regulatory body that governs room rates, basic quality of facilities/service etc.

Please list all the issue faced. Our objective here is to take a whitepaper to the key Government stakeholders and make hotels more consumer oriented in India.

Hotel Business means combating the Competition, which means you run a race in which every other competitor wants to run fast & come first by providing the best of amenities, keeping the area very well cleaned, properly guarded, have the best of Safety Policy keeping in mind the Ladies' issues, no hidden Cameras, keeping the heavy weights to tackle any eventuality, providing the best, healthy & reasonable priced food, keeping one abreast with the latest developments in your own country & abroad. Bringing into practice these useful changes, having good Lawyers & Consultants to guide you properly with Legal & Financial Aspects. Giving top priority to the entertainment of people, especially the younger lot by keeping the Indoor Sports items, giving well cushioned & comfortable seats & places of rest are some of the factors essential for Hotels to have proper Business. more
Let competition be the master. If licenses are going to the basis on which hotels are going to run I think with the type of administration that we have we will never have quality anywhere. I have currently started using the OYO rooms app and find that on an average the rooms are provided and handled by OYO are fair and reasonably. Prices are good/ location is decent and food is OK. If we get more aggregators in India in places of tourist importance and major hotels form an aggregating group I am sure we will get good quality hotels in a short time. The weakness that we Indians suffer from is payment. We want the Waldorf in terms of rooms/ service/ food etc. and the payment we want to make is the price we wish to pay for a ROADSIDE DHABA. more
As I was incharge of corporate tie-ups with hotels, I used to first check out the properties before we sign the contracts whether they fall under our Health & Safety policy. In Gurgaon alone I found many small hotels with so many safety issues. I wonder how the Govt has given the license to open such hotels at the expense of safety of the guests. I am pretty shocked at the callous way even the General Manager of a hotel says he is not aware of the safety regulations. I suggest the Govt should immediately pull up all these small hotels registered/unregistered and close them down and lay down stringent laws of safety in Delhi/NCR. more
Tourism will see a boom in near future. Many new hotels will come up across the country. New hotels will force existing hotels to improve or face drop in business. Competition will bring alround improvement. IT sector had grown tremendously without any regulatory mechanism. Govt. should concentrate on efforts to promote tourism by developing infrastructure viz. roads, round the clock availabilty of power; by improving law & order; by upgrading cleanliness etc.. more
Mr Rajendra Pratap Gupta, I am basically against too many regulations. For Hotel Industry around 50 licenses and approvals are required during construction. For classification (star rating), again, there is a long list of requirements to be met, before the hotel can be given stars. There is Food & drug administration, weight & measure, customs, sales tax, excise and many more who check their own areas of control. Government should stop interfering in day to day operation of the businesses. Let this White Paper be absolute blank. more
