How sellers boost prices to show big discount

This seller good deeds on amazon inflating mrp of a 1300 rupee product to 12900 so he can show 90% discount.

Why cant all ecommerce co.s have an algorithm to check the ratio of sale price to mrp/ list price and if its too low say below 0.3 or so examine those listings for price.

Why does mrp dept not check these frauds actively. Do the mrp staff have understanding of ecommerce and do they visit their warehouses and sales centers?? more

Sale is big hoax and they must be minting money pretending discount. Otherwise how one can give 30 to 90% discount on any item. Something must be done to curtail this practice as only customers are taken for a ride. more
Its the same on every e-commerce website they increase Selling Price and MRP and show huge discounts during sale where the customer is buying at price more than more the actual MRp if you walk in to any showroom /retail store physically more
Sorry, but your impression is not correct. After reading your post, I searched on internet. I couldn't get price from Philips website but the MRP of single piece of this LED light is Rs. 1,300 on Snapdeal whereas the product displayed on Amazon is a pack of 10 light which gives MRP of Rs. 13,000. Accordingly, it can be concluded that the price mentioned on Amazon site is correct. MRP can also be verified by visiting a retail store. more
Leenaji, in that case, necessary corrections should have been done by the seller or Amazon because, the replies submitted were from seller itself. Also, discount % should accordingly be corrected. more
Atul I visited this link sent by you. Below product description they give some Faqs in which one consumer has asked 'Pack of 10 means?'. The answer to this question is 'wrongly mentioned, its pack of 1 light only'. Please see and further reply on this post. more
Please check following link and go to 'See More product details' and check 'Included Components' where it is mentioned '10 wall lights.

Any inflation of price in label or advertisement is a case of profiteering. Subsequent deductions to claim a reduced price is plain fraud. I don't know what prevents the customer/ commerce ministry from charging the manufacturer and distributor. If we have to approach courts for remedy in every instance, then what purpose do these ministries serve? more
I have prayed to the government to impose a cap on profiteering. If this is implemented then there will be a cap on MRP. more
