If you lose your mobile in India, you can get it back. Got an interesting fact to share.. Nowadays each one of us carries very costly or latest mobile devices which always creates fear in mind that it may be stolen. Each mobile carries a unique IMEI no. i.e. International Mobile Equipment Identity No which can be used to track your mobile anywhere in the world. This is how it works!! 1. Dial *#06# from your mobile. 2. Your mobile shows a unique 15 digit. 3. Note down this number anywhere but not in your mobile as this is the number which will help trace your mobile in case of its theft. 4. Once stolen you just have to E-mail this 15 digit IMEI No. to cop@vsnl.net with detail Mentioned below. Your name:____________________ Address:______________________ Phone model:_________________ Make:_________________________ Last used No.:_________________ E-mail for communication:_____ Missed date:___________________ IMEI No :_______________________ 5. No need to go to the police. 6. Your Mobile will be traced within next 24 hrs via a complex system of GPRS and internet, You will find where your hand set is being operated even in case your No. is changed. more

When I lost my latest ASUS ZENFONE, I complained everywhere including the ASUS Customer care. Nobody other than ASUS responded. They told me that there is no mechanism to trace the mobile but they agreed that they will inform me if it is brought to any of their service centres. It is now more than an year. After that I had purchased another mobile and had contacted the service centre as it had problems. I also know that people who have latest ZENfones have to approach the service centre. But after when I followed up with ASUS regarding my lost mobile, their response did not make me happy. We will get back our mobile if our people are honest!!! more
In civilsed world (Europe & North America), telecom companies will not allow a stolen hansdset to be used and flag the same to law enforcement agencies. But in lawlless India, every illegality is allowed as all concerned turn their Nelso eye to such crimes. more
While the technology exists to trace the lost mobile number through the IMEI number, however the basic question is who are the tracers? It is only those who are lazy enough to even accept the complaint and register a FIR. This technology to trace is not of the recent one but for many years existing. more
