INDIA POST DEMAND FOR AADHAR COPY

Today our local PO counter officer asked for a signed copy of my Aadhar card to send a registered mail overseas. This seems rather unnecessary as the sender's contact details are already on the envelope. Any advice on this issue? more

Confusion arises as we have more identity cards for KYC purpose. We need to have one card like Aadhar which is similar to SSN prevailing in USA. Aadhar has to have interface with all departments across so that we sail through smooth. In this fast advancing technology, misuse is possible, however careful you are as culprits devise innovate ways to cut across to loot. We were not knowing about cloning of ATM cards when it was introduced but this has become possible. Now banks installed advanced ATMs to prevent the misuse, but you never know the move of the criminals. more
Aadhar and PAN card details are being misused. Another is if you give your mobile number in any form, then this number is also sold. Many an agency use this to increase their data base and thus increase their business, but in turn it becomes harassment to general public. more
Anyone demands your Aadhar copy. Most of the places its not at all mandatory but the authorities project that its mandatory. If you argue with the authorities, they stop demanding. Why we should share our Aadhar copy with anyone and everyone? Chances of our identity cards, be it PAN or Aadhar being misused are there. more
For all those members who made meaningful replies to my original query "a thank you". I did get an official reply from India post twitter handle which says replying to @DilipModi3 From India Post @IndiaPostOffice "Yes any KYC document will be sufficient, Aadhar is not mandatory." 9:07 PM · Aug 9, 2021 What it confirms is that any ID that is used for KYC is acceptable. Unfortunately there is no notice or instructions to PO staff on this, who end up asking for Aadhar only. I hope this helps those who do not have an Aadhar Card or wish to provide a different kind of ID. Mind you, it still leaves the question unanswered - what do they do with all the paper copies? more
Is there any harm in providing a copy of the Aadhar Card for the purpose ? Before handing over the copy you can ascribe on this the purpose of giving the copy of the document. more
