Loot by pharma companies

So a simple anti biotic ointment tube of 15 gms called T-Bact costs rupees 240. This is commonly prescribed by doctors to people if they have skin allergy/infection. Common people are unable to afford it.

Here is what all’s wrong:
The product is made by Glaxo smith kline a very large medical multinational

The company has India subsidiary, hires top notch India industrialists like Deepak Parekh on its board.

The company hires top lobbyists and PR firms.

The company sponsors nice bashes for doctors

Hefty commissions are distributed in the distribution chain

All kinds of dealings take place between area managers and dealers

Ultimately consumer ends up paying so much.

Question is - who is the regulator, do they intend to clean up or regulate this loot? Or why isnt an Indian alternative developed for such product? Would be curious to know costing for a tube of T-bact. Wont be surprised if its less than 50 (research and patent costs included) more

All are justified saying everything is fair in business. Not only Pharma, unethical business practices are part of any kind of business, not only in India but also in many other countries. Everybody is feeling the limits. Just like we are destroying the environment by being careless about a lot of things, in business too we are being unethical. Simply we do not think of consequences. more
