Making eating out cheaper

Looks like Govt is looking at reducing ac restaurant gst from 18% to 12%

Now if we all can strongly stand up and literally boycott restauranta that arrogantly charge service charge by displaying "we levy 10% service charge" we would be able to really lower cost of eating out.

Happy Deepawali friends!!! more

Good rate is reduced. But consumers need to be careful and ensure the restaurants are not charging more. Prices depicted on board is to be inclusive of GST more
Businessmen and Politicians are having underhand dealings. Unless the politicians find way to increase the price, how come they get donation from the businessmen. more
Most of the people are going to restaurant as a necessity . So it is not possible to stop going to restaurants. Best way is to pressurize the government authority to change the present GST pattern related restaurant suitable to common man. Of late we find for each and everything , the seller is increasing the price mentioning GST name. If we question them , then will say some vague answers and finally they come down to normal price. What is happening is that government happy for the easy revenue as GST and they dont bother to check whether Sellers are cheating the public in the name of GST more
Whenever a restaurant is charging service tax, please do not pay any tip to boast of youself. more
This is a nice way of cost reduction. First, increase taxes indiscriminately and reduce it later to take a credit that Taxes have been reduced. Weren't the GST Council aware of earlier VAT pattern on restaurant food and services? more
Let us form some association for fighting all arbitrary charges by any shop keeper more
It is an unwritten agenda of the Government to fool people. So anything goes. And please don't complain till you decide to leave India. more
Now regarding service charges it will defer with restaurant . more
There are Inspectors for everything, but because they do not do their job and interested only in speed money, people are left to the mercy of the businessmen. In India nothing is done on the spot or real time. So, the offenders take advantage and carry on extortion. And if you end up in a court pursuing an offender, God help you because there is no time frame available. If the administration is pro-active like a local help line number for consumers is available on the spot and the staff attends to your complaint immediately, the whole scene will change. Is it there? more
How can you expect govt staff to take care you do not eat in restaurant where service charges are applied. more
Doing HALLA in restaurants is simply mindless, we can't waste our own time & energy and pay taxes also. What for we are having the Govt. staff? more
