M.R.P

yes, it has Now become a rampant practice with most mfrs.of electrical and electronic goods to place a label of highly jacked up MRP ON the packages and offer them at special prices 10 to 25% lower. If one bargains even further 10 to 15% can be obtained. Another gimmick is 0% interest plus 5 to 15% cash back on purchase with a credit card of particular banks with preworked EMI. Mfrs.and distributers and dealers are thus taking a customer for a ride instead of offering the product at a very reasonable price which could be at least 25 to 30% less than their current labelled MRP.Even crackers are priced at aroud 300% of its actual selling price and the ignorant are taken for a royal ride. more

Agree with you Gopalbandhuji. The MRP is a joke- D Mart gives a discount of, sometimes, 12% on goods. Just work backwards and guess the actual cost of production- transport, logistics, margin of the dealer and retailer etc. more
The issue is not whether there is any method available for computing what should be MRP. it is whether a product or certain class of products should be price regulated or not. In general, in an open competitive open economy, Government doesn't regulate the price except for essential commodities. If there is gross overpricing in collusion with each other by producers/ manufacturers, I guess the concerned state government can intervene by negotiating the rational prices, even though they may not have lawful authority (if in dire need, this can be obtained by promulgating an ordnance). Other than that, I feel that only a complaint under M.R.T.P Act is the only recourse. more
MRP is a real RACKET. It is high time that Govt's intervention is required. Otherwise how a common man will know that he/she is paying correct price and not being CHEATED. more
It has been a trade secret that the prices that is printed are much higher than the actual at which purchased by the dealer or retailer. In any wholesale market, you will get 10 to 25% discount without bargaining with them. So far the medicine price is concerned, now some stores are displaying 10% discount and in case of purchase of more than Rs. 1000/- it is 15% and above Rs. 2000/- it is 20% discount. Moreover, the price of Medicines are increasing by 10 to 30% every six months. more
The following formula for computing MRP is available on Google: Maximum Retail Price Calculation Formula= Manufacturing Cost + Packaging/presentation Cost + Profit Margin + CnF margin + Stockist Margin + Retailer Margin + GST + Transportation + Marketing/advertisement expenses + other expenses etc. There are adequate information available on google. It is food for thought that MRP could be justified. more
