MRP

An unfair trade practice is defined under Section 2 (1) (r) of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. According to this definition, it is a trade practice carried out for the promotion of sale.
It is the distribution or utilisation of any good or service by adopting a deceptive method or practice.
MRTP Act had been replaced by the Competition Commission of India Act. As such, consumer complaints with respect to MRP can be lodged with the CCI. more

MRP is being fixed without reference to the market condition, if the item has a demand, else it is based on the pricing mechanism. The Competition Commission of India Act. is hardly having any control over MRP. more
MRP is not for promotion of sale, but not for charging consumers more than the MRP stipulated by the manufacturers including costs of marketing, distribution, and other expenses. MRP is inclusive of margins of profits for all those involved in the distribution of goods and services. Margin between the ex-works prices and the last mile prices meant for the consumers are pretty high to cover all those in the distribution channel. Margins of the retailers are also high enough to sell goods and services to the final consumers at a discount. Discounted prices are also inclusive of all taxes on sale of goods and services and must be so mentioned in the cash memos. However, the trade and the service providers do not bother about the rules and regulations while the reps of departments of Trade & Taxes in the States and Union Territories do not care for implementing the rules and regulations because of roaring corruption. Taxes on sales of any hue, including GST & CGST are collected by the States' Authorities/Union Territories being an Indirect Tax (because they collect Central Part of the Tax on Sales, e.g., Central Sales Tax or Central Goods & Services Tax. The great regret is the concerned officers do not raid places in the markets where consumer protection is at its peak. Look at the retail cloth sales market: the shopkeepers do not show the last end of the role to check the MRP - offer discount at the sticker price. Stickers are stuck on the packaged goods. While these mal practices are prevalent throughout the country, my suggestion to the LocalCircle and the Departments of Consumers at the Centre and the Delhi State is to conduct a survey of Yusuf Sarai Market, New Delhi, and provide the results at the coming International Consumers Day. The best will be if CCPA does this job. more
MRP shall differ from District to District. Then only Justified. more
Yes. consumer complaints with respect to MRP can be lodged with the CCI. Also with Dept. of Legal Metrology. One can also approach The District Consumers Disputes Redressal Commission. The provisions of the COPRA are in addition to the provisions of all other Acts. more
MRP System is Against the Concept AND Objective of the Act of Competition Commission. Sale Price shall varry from District to District , State to State IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN REASONABLE PRICE OF COST + Tpt etc along with motto of Controlling Undue Profiteering. GOI NEED TO THINK IN THIS VITAL ISSUE OF FAIR PRICE. more
