Indian Medical Association should look into it under guidance of National Physical Lab and BIS more
There is actually no certifying agency in India for medical devices such as implants, stents etc. Spend a little money on foreign products because those products are tested in their respective countries. PM is blaming Indian doctors for the high cost and unreliability of devices in India while encouraging "MAKE IN INDIA" without appropriate regulation for life saving devices. I do not understand by what logic doctors are responsible for medicines and devices which are made by companies. Doctors do not have any information or guidelines as to which of them are original and tested and certified. That is the job of either Consumer affairs or Health department. Let me give one example. I have read an article last month that although the central government wants doctors in India to prescribe generic drugs, Ayushman Bharat scheme is actually not going to use generic medicines. When the government itself does not trust generics, then how can it expect doctors to trust them. Therein lies the catch that the layman needs to understand. Doctors are soft targets and the PM has decide to attack them. One of his cabinet ministers even called allopathic doctors as anti-national. The responsibility of regulating quality lies with government, not doctors. The same article gave up the following statistics. India has 10,000 licensed pharmaceutical companies. Out of these, only 1,400 are WHO - GMP (World Health Organisation Good Manufacturing Practises) certified and undergo inspections. Only 523 companies additionally have certification from USFDA, European FDA etc and undergo inspections from those agencies. Hence, an Indian doctor who cares for his patient would rather prescribe medicines from a company which maintains quality even though it is costly because it will be more costly when the company is made to undergo so many inspections every quarter because the company has to pay for those inspections. In addition, any adverse comments on any factory of any company made by those foreign inspection agencies are legally bound to be declared to SEBI and the public if the company is listed. Thus, anyone who watches business news channels will find many such reports on a weekly basis and the company is forced to correct any mistakes. The issue of bribing officials of a foreign agency also does not arise. more
Most of the Medical Equipment are made in china. How much these equipment's are reliable and its result is big question mark. more
SOME ONLINE PATH LABS ARE GIVING FREE SUGAR TESTING MACHINES ALONG WITH WHOLE BODY PATH TESTS FOR ABOUT 2000/-. SUCH MACHINES ARE EITHER JUNK OR THE TESTING MACHINE MANUFACTURER WILL MAKE UP FOR THE COST OF MACHINE, BY SELLING TESTING STRIPS AT HIGHER COST. NOTHING COMES FOR FREE. IN GENERAL I HAVE NOTICED THAT READINGS OF PORTABLE MACHINES ARE HIGHER THAN THAT OF PATH LAB BY 10 UNITS. IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD PRACTICE TO MEASURE BLOOD SUGAR AT HOME ALSO, WHEN EVER YOU GET IT DONE FROM A RELIABLE PATH LAB. WITH THIS ONE CAN CALIBRATE THE HOME METER AND ACERTAIN ITS RELIABILITY. more
Why not the CDSCO or NPPA, intervene and CALLIBERATION of these machines a mandatory issue? more
The Governments should provide the names and contact details of all the agencies where the health measurement equipment can be calibrated and certified. This should include even the bathroom weighing machine, ..... In the absence of such agencies the citizens are at great loss. I have weighing machine, Omron blood pressure equipment which give unreliable measurements.....Where to go in Gurgaon.... more
