OEMs refusing to honour warranty for ecommerce purchases

We purchased a Yamaha PSR E-353 keyboard from Cloudtail via Amazon in Jan 2017 with a 3 year warranty.

Since last few days the key board was not functioning properly and when we took the keyboard to a Yamaha service center in Delhi, we were denied service stating that Yamaha only honours warranty for products sold via the dealer network and not via online channel.

Why such discrimination Yamaha? and Cloudtail, why was this not mentioned in the listing or terms when the product was sold? more

The eCommerce companies are gradually losing their credibility & reliability. Days are ahead when people will completely avoid online marketing and revert back to the earlier system of purchasing from the local showrooms after physical verification and full satisfaction of the reliability of the manufacturers and dealers. Enormous complaints regarding dishonor of manufacturers' warranty began pouring in since the days online purchasing got popularity and momentum. Their days are apparently numbered now. more
Indirectly a very helpful contribution by Sachin Taparia. The lesson: Buy what you can see and approve with human contact of a sales person. more
That is the reason when you buy an item on line which needs servicing and warranty aspects first of all ask the online portal as to who is going to address warranty issues. It is prudent otherwise afterwards running from one pillar to another is a time consuming affair. Write a complain in the yamaha website and ask them about it. with the equipment you would have got a warranty information for registeration check for the same more
Nothing to get surprise, it's a common phenomen and a big no. of customers have already experienced such problem. It is already advised not to purchase any consumer durables and capital goods through Online channels as manufacturers are not responsible for any service agreement. You can take up the issue with the E commerce agency from whom you purchased the goods. Authorised dealer takes responsibility to address such greivences. more
REALLY PATHETIC - DO THEY MEAN TO SAY THAT THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL ONLINE ARE SUBSTANDARD AND THE DON'T CARRY THE STANDARD WARRANTIES more
