Online Pharmacies Banned across India

Delhi high court has banned online sales of medicines yesterday across India. This means all epharmacies are banned.

It has directed centre and Delhi Govt t implement this ban immediately.

There was benefit in selling drugs online (price saving and easy findability (rather than going shop to shop), at the same time the risks were high in some cases.

This circle started some discussion on epharmacies. Can we have follow on discussion and rationalise this rather than blanket bans. more

Access the official website of Delhi High Court and download copy of the Order, and post it in this Local Circle. In any case, I feel it is a good order of the court in the absence of any rules and regulations of the online or eCommerce sales including that of the chemists' trade in India. eCommerce is worst than the off line trade, supplying extremely bad products. I am a victim of it. more
We are just throwing the stone in the dark without reading the court judgement. Ms. Sandhya, did you read it? more
Mr. Biswas, if you have the Order copy, pl. post it here. I have only seen the media report. https://qz.com/india/1494451/delhi-high-court-bans-e-pharmacies-like-netmeds-medlife-1mg/ more
Then local medical stores need to offer discounts like online. Stop loot more
Court order is absolutely the result of a close mind blind to the realities of the situations. Court didn't consider all aspects of the matter. The points raised by the court are more appropriately applicable to the brick and mortar establishment. In all these shops you can have any medicine without a prescription whereas you can't have these online without it and that too without a valid one. Spurious medicines are traded frequently in these shops. All shops and online pharmacies should adhere to same rules. There is case for regulating online pharmacies as in the case of brick and mortar shops. Court orders need to be reviewed. The online pharmacies need to be brought under Drug control regulations immediately so that benefit of available of prescription medicines continue to be available to the vast population of the country at competitive prices. The cartel of brick and mortar monopoly needs to be broken.. more
I am senior citizen having treatment for diabetes and other problems. My monthly bill reaches for insulin alone to 1600 and rest of the medicines to heart related elements etc... about 3500/- through pharmacies purchase. Quarterly the bill accumulates around 12500 to 15000/-. For the past few months I tried to get the medicines online where the bill for a month was reduced by 25% and genuine medicines were delivered at my door step. Does the court/government want to help the people or the pharmacies for their laws and support pharmacies who make not less than 200% profits and senior citizens like us, to suffer losses? What is the justice. Let the government provide pass a bill that the medicines at pharmacies too with trade marks on it to be sold maximum 25% higher than the generic medicines available in the market. I fully agree with Santipriyo Das and ashok Ashok in this regard and request the health ministry to give free hand to online medicines which will help many and specially those who are senior citizens. more
