Online sites displaying inflated MRP - Solutions

Below are the key issues listed by you in regards to online sites displaying products at prices over MRP to project higher discounts. We request you to review them and propose specific solutions that will help address the listed issues.

We look forward to your inputs!

Online sites displaying products over MRP – Issues identified by consumers

1. Price mentioned for some products on ecommerce websites is higher than the actual MRP of the product

2. Some sites increase the MRP of the products to be able to offer a lucrative looking discount

3. In some rare cases the price tags are changed to a higher price than the actual price of the product

4. Products are sold at a higher price than the MRP and when the customer asks for a refund, store credits are given to them

5. Prices are commonly increased just before a sale is announced and then discounts are offered and poor Indian consumers who search by discounts get misled into ordering

6. Some sites may even have algorithms which can increase the prices of certain products across the site (even if they exceed MRP) with a single command and then revert them with a command

7. On some items, the company MRP is covered by stickers with a higher MRP

8. Some sites sell imported versions on products which are also manufactured in India and put a higher MRP sticker on them more

I think the idea to have all online sites mandatorily display product image section that outllines mrp and other details must be put online as an image where ever its selling. So if a casio key board is listed, along with 3-4 pictures of product, 1 picture will be of mrp, lot no. date of manufacture etc. This will be a boon to consumer. more
1. Administrative infra should be created to take care of this kind of menace. 2. Strict penal action should be taken against stores indulging in this practice. 3. Helpline should be provided to report this 4. A process need to be announced as to how complaints in this regard can be lodged. 5. This kind of fraudsters should be given wide negative publicity to dissuade them from further malpractice and to keep customers aware such companies & stores. more
All the issues raised by NCH are valid nd suitable curbs be put on them by the Consumer Affairs Ministry. Another measure will be to compel them to display the crossed price as MRP if true. What these site put is a mere figure sans MRP mention. This is patently misleading. And if a site charge more than actual MRP, they should refund back with interest ,not in Voucher but in CASH with Interest. more
In majority of cases an obliging manufacturer will print MRP of your requirement from which you can work " attractive discounts ". A standard price list is seldom put forth for customers to compare. Perhaps GST if it gets cleared may bring in some control till then online marketers will be having a rollicking time fleecing the gullible. more
