Parking fees in malls illegal

The Kerala High Court has today, observed that the collection of parking fees from customers by shopping malls is prima facie illegal. The bench added that if this was permitted, they will also collect fees for providing lift service to their customers.

We all should take this up with local district magistrates and get them to pass an order making mall parking fee illegal. more

Kudos to the High Court Bench . Even similar Orders have already been there from few other High Courts including the Gujarat High Court. Every business must run responsibly by providing reasonable facilities like free parking space, toilets, drinking water, sitting space, etc., to its customers because of whom such businesses are making profits. If one cannot provide such minimum basic amenities and facilities, he has no right to be in the business. Yes, "Cusomer is the King" . more
Many motorists find convenient, safe parking of vehicles in nearby malls,as they don't have proper parking space. Due to non availability of proper parking space, mostly vehicles are parked on road sides, which tendamounts to damage, stealing of fittings and some times vehicles stolen. In order to safe guard the vehicles, they park in small parking space and pay charges, based on duration. more
Here is the deal! Charge everyone parking fees, but in the case of EVs provide charging facilities on cost basis, say ₹5 per unit and parking charges apply only after one or 2 hours. Polluters pay principle suggest that if someone uses a diesel vehicle, he should jolly well pay for the privilege as there is usage of subsidy, costing the country too as crude oil has to be imported, on more so, resulting carbon emissions. Let costing incentivise people towards cleaning up the air we have dirtied. After all, same incentives prompted excessive dieselising personal transportation with industries taking cues from would be customers quickly adding dieselised version cars. Foreign players too participated in this transition helping themselves leverage Indian market. Pay back time. more
That cannot be supported please. Every Mall must have free parking facilities for their customers and nothing further . more
A reasonable Parking Fee must be Charged. Same can be adjusted if you do the Shopping of some fixed amount or more. more
Why should the customers bear the parking fee at all? more
If you drive, you pay. You pay for fuel, for vehicle maintenance, insurance, then why not for parking in public places? There are people who park in malls and go outside for shopping and there are those who park on roads so as not to pay for parking Parking on roads (any road) should also be at a price. more
