Pollution Control Towers

Six year ago, I left NCR and shifted to Pune due to pollution. It was impossible for me to live with existing pollution level. Prior to that, several times, I had written to Sheela Dixit and followed up to set up pollution control towers in Delhi. There is no other alternative to pollution control towers. CGHS, Municipal Corporations and Delhi Government should start installing pollution control boxes and Pollution Control towers at various places. These towers will have a simple technology. They will intake the polluted air. These towers will have several filters. And, output will be unpolluted air. I had created one such pollution control box for my domestic use. Since, I had made it from waste / thrown away thing, the cost of production was almost "NIL". But if one uses exhaust fan and makes it, then the cost of production, should not cross Rs. 2,000/- In city, if they install huge towers, then the cost of installing one tower will be less than Rs. 10,00,000/- which is far less than the life of citizens. more

It seems such devices are operational in quite a few Chinese cities - Beijing and Shanghai. more
I doubt that such towers would be an economically viable solution. The idea seems oversimplified solution of the air pollution problem. Nevertheless any idea is worth appreciation and if suitable, should be tried. I would like to contribute. more
More public transport system preferably electric driven, increasing metro net work, planing more greeneries, controlling vehicular density by odd/even system, minimising burning of straws in nearby areas, making studies for artificial rain with man-made cloud may solve Delhi's pollution problems. more
Would like to know the capacity of the pollution control towers, Annual maintenance cost, and how many numbers of towers would be required for a city of 2500 Sq.Km. area? more
Beautiful suggestion and I hope all governments should construct such towers and see the results for themselves. These towers can be used for some other purpose also, like abosorbing the lightining during rains, illuminating the areas and survelliance. It is worth trying. more
