Poor confidentiality maintenance by banks

if one just updates aadhaar at some banks, they are sharing all possible in a postal letter like PAN, Aadhar number, Mobile Number, Bank Account number, DoB etc. See attached.

Govt and UIDAI, RBI need to have some rules on information sharing. more

This needs to be brought to the notice of the Supreme Court through the Petitioners and their Counsels who have taken up this cause. There is no need to mention details by the Bank. Banks are just overdoing it. more
This is rediculous. Let there be proper format, designed by RBI. more
Subject:- Why are customers for SBI credit card issued based on their bank deposit with SBI expected to reveal private and confidential information to unauthorized personnel/agents. I wish to share my experience with State Bank of India Card Canvassing staff at SBI Mylapore Branch in early December 2017. I applied for their credit card producing my PAN Card, bank account particulars confirming I am a long term customer of the Bank(since 1960s). I was told my card issued for a limit based on my deposit with another local branch would be issued and would reach me in 5 days following a telephone verification. After the telephone verification I instead received a message on my mobile telephone seeking my cooperation in authorising viewing of something on a website. As it was not clear what the party required(it was not a message from SBI) I sought the clarification of the SBI Mylapore staff concerned who told me it was a request to authorise some party to view my CIBIL account before issue of card. Also they had omitted to tell me that this would be required and I was surprised to receive this message instead of the promised card. Since the credit card is being issued based on my deposit with SBI earmarked for its usage, and I am their legitimate customer for several years, it struck me as objectionable that some apparently outsourced agent should seek to view my CIBIL particulars. I informed her that in that case I do not need the card and deleted the message in her presence. Later a courier-boy from Blue Dart called with the credit card and said he would deliver it upon my producing identity verification to him. I find it objectionable that even after producing all necessary papers to the personnel at SBI based upon which the credit card is issued and even after telephone verification to establish my presence at the residential address, the Bank/Blue Dart should expect the customer to produce identity proof to a courier boy! Such requirements to authorise access to CIBIL report and furnish one's identity proof to unauthorised agents puts the SBI customer at risk of Cyber Crime attack. I therefore declined to receive the credit card since I had already advised the SBI Mylapore Staff I do not need a credit card when my confidentiality and security are sought to be watered down. I recall that last year I received an anonymous telephone call from a lady claiming to be Branch Manager of State Bank of India ..........(unclear)Branch, who stated that my SBI ATM card has been compromised. As I affected incomprehension, she repeated herself, deliberately mumbling the Branch name, and instantly disconnected when I bluntly stated that I do not hold any ATM card. I lost no time in reporting the matter to the Chennai Metropolitan Police who forwarded it to their Cyber Cell. However the telephone number noted by me was faked. Our Supreme Court should hear all views on Aadhar Card - Bank Account linking Compulsion and take the right decision to save the citizenry from Cyber crime harassment. L.Kalavathi Retd. When I joinded a nationalised bank as a probationary officer, we were told to tear up or shred all papers discarded before dropping same in waste paper bin. Obviously present bankers are not aware of this rudimentary precaution to protect confidentiality of bank customers/transactions. L.Kalavathi Retd. One yet should wonder about how one gets more and more messages on phone from sources one's never heard of....... more
