Product Safety issues

Some we know went out for cycling with her new OnePlus Nord 2 (5days old) in her sling. All of a sudden phone blasted and smoke started coming out of it. Due to this blast, she met with an accident.
She is in trauma after this incident. Attached pictures.

What is the likely redressal in such cases. Will consumer affairs take suo moto action. What if tens of millions of consumers have this phone in India and a couple of lakh exploded like this. Who will go to jail for bad product or inaction? more

Product Liability is neither common nor easy to enforce in India - no one will go to prison ... That said, a suitable and effective approach could result in: 1. Phone replacement 2. Medical costs being borne by the brand / manufacturer 3. Some limited compensation - probably in the thousands ... Beyond that .... not likely ... more
Product safety or lack there of must be addressed proactively more
Here we are talking about warranty, claims, damages etc., while the main question is safety as such incidents could be proved to be fatal and cause irreparable damages including loss of life (lives). A few years back there were several incidents of blast in Samsung branded phones. It indicates that the fault is not with the brand but testify the observations of Mr Ramchandran M Nair. Majority of users probably do not read the manuals being provided with each set and comply with the stipulations/guidelines and that makes the difference. Hopefully, the injured user will soon come out of her trauma, get well soon and live a normal life. more
Moral : never ever purchase chinese , the major issue is overcharging when people leave phones overnight for charging or otherwise as chinese batteries and phones are most unreliable compared to other phones which have function to stop charging automatically once 100% charging is achieved more
This is a textbook case for "class action" suit against the manufactuerer. I hope our govt will bring such a provision (as is listed in the U.S laws) to hold people accountable for such grave lapses under stringent laws. more
