PSU bank - consumer frauds

A few days back a friend’s father in Kolkata got a call from somebody who identified himself as the manager of his bank branch

He was told since UBI is now PNB, his debit card would be locked. But since he’s old as a special facility

The required re-KYC would be done on phone. Her father gave him his bank details and OTP etc whatever came on his phone.

Over the next two days he lost Rs 1.1 lakh from two accounts. They lodged a formal complaint, all her father’s accounts stand frozen and cops advised him to change his number. more

Even for genuine purpose the Bank Manager will not contact over phone. Then why this fake calls are anwered? more
We must have self discipline of not to answer unknown calls but we fall prey. So why do blame banks. Yes, there are few cases of frauds take place in connivance with bank employees but we need to be cautious in our actions with the respect to financial transactions. more
Despite frequent warnings through SMS by the concerned banks as also through social media that no banks ever send such messages asking not to share such important information to any one online, if such one overlooks such important instruction, even the God can't help him. more
The thieves also started "work from home" strategy. Some are Bank staff (not only PSU but private banks too) who use proxy to trap Sr. Citizens, House wives, even daily wage earners. Beware! You are next. more
Everyday it becomes very strenuous whenever call comes from unknown number. Majority calls receiving from banks / cards for new a/c, loan requirement, etc etc. Often getting fake calls and when they understands that I understood it is fake, they becomes so abusive using slang amongst the family members uttering over telephone, it becomes embarrassing and frustrating. It appears that the the telephone and computer has been taken over by fraudsters as if it is another self employment like a govt funded " udyaog". Many required calls not picking up thinking that they will talk about a/c frozen, sim stopped and so on. Few calls also recorded and it narrates how boldly they are doing the frauds. When I approach concerned bank, they say to approcah local police station. But I know that without the knowledge of the connected branch, fraudsters will not know such details. Economy has not become cashless, but it sure that it has become full of fraudsters. more
