Restaurants must be made to pass GST benefits

Thanks for sharing the survey results below. I was recently suggested that one must take a photo of the menu card in the restaurant. If the menu card is from pre Nov 2017 and same prices are still being charged, the same may serve as evidence against profiteering.

Let us all do that, atleast at major restaurants. more

Sir, I have submitted photocopies of the menu card as on 30th June 2017 and as on 3rd July 2017 along with copy of the bill dtd. 03/07/2018 to the profiteering authority through an analytical article/ report indicating the increase in profit by about 20-35% . The article which was sent to the Authority is available on my blog. The Authority has not even initiated any action despite the availability of documentary evidences. more
The law states you can only charge if the customer does not object and once the customer says he does not wish to get charged then the restraint has no right to do it.If he does or insists then pay him but take photography of the bill and send it to the CBDT you will see the results, your refund will come with apology from the owners and they will be penalized to a great extent. more
Do menu cards have dates printed on them to tell u when they increase d the price. The fact is that the restaurant s charge what they feel like and as long as they find customers ready to pay then will keep charging. The margins in hotel industry are huge but they also hv huge costs so I don't think you will be able to take any action against them. more
If there was no GST then prices in restaurants would not have increased? Before GST happened I at least never had heard the term "profiteering". now it is household terminology. If a restaurant has 20 staff and the owner increases the salary of each staff by Rs 200 per month and the menu has 20 items then by how much should the price per item go up? Assuming salary was increased on 1st April 2018. So what should be increase in price assuming no GST and with GST. Soon we might ask for audited profit and loss account of KFC to be hung along the menu in their shops. more
There is no GST for purchasing food articles from local markets, but we pay on the entirs sales price also which includes raw material cost where GST is not paid. The restaurants are giving consolidated returns where the GST is shown at a much lower level. more
